Twas the Night Before Christmas....

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the shop
Not a creature was stirring, time for a wee drop
My new parts were placed on the bench with care,
Pistons, rods, and even a new cam was there.

The Olds guys were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of small blocks and big blocks danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
just pulled a cool one from the tap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the stool to see what was the matter.
Away to the garage I flew like a flash,
Tore open the doors and checked on my stash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Was pale compared to my Oldsmobile’s glow.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But ol’ Saint Nick with a case of Cold beer.

He Had an old “88” driver, so lively and quick,
Posi-Traction and a 4 speed Stick.
It had a lumpity lump cam and a roller valve train,
And I whistled, and shouted, and said this is insane!

"Now the body is fair and there’s some rust that needs fixen!
But the motor is tuff and the 4 speed is bitchin!
Tuck and roll and torque to spare!
I will race ‘em all If they aren’t scared!

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
He hit the throttle and the tires began to fry.
So up the road the ol’ 88 flew,
With the motor screaming, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, he was back from his run
Wish I went with him it sure looked like fun.
As I shook my head, and was turning around,
Out popped St Nick in a single bound.

He was dressed for workin, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with grease and soot.
A bundle of parts he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
Let’s go he says, we can make your project cherry!
So we went to the shop and we began,
He was turning wrenches and I began to sand.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He worked like a demon and not much to say,
He was settin the timing and I began to spray!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
C’mon boy let’s finish this sled.

He spoke not a word, and went back to his work,
And finished all the details, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, and tightened the last hose!

He started my olds and gave a big whistle,
Sounds good, I think she will be a missle
Let’s take her down the block in the middle of the night
I said let’s go Santa I think it'll be all right
I heard him exclaim, as we rumbled out of sight,
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Just wanted to wish you and your families all the very best for the Christmas Season, and a Happy Healthy and Proseperous New Year.

Merry Christmas,
Eddie

Bummer.
I am 'working' from home today and will be off tomorrow.

I hope ol' St. Nick can help me get Lady finished up in a few days!
Have a great one!

Yeah, I have to work tomorrow too, but only until about 2pm. Don't have to go back until after New Years. Hoping Santa is going to bring me my new seat cover from Legendary so I can put it in over the break.

Thats Great ! Reminds me of my HS PeeChee(sp?) I had stolen something similar from a readers letter in HR magazine. About 1980 +/-

went something like this (all I can recall)

T'was the night before the races and all thru the garage
Not a creature was stirring not even my Dodge
the tools were all hung on the walls with care
hoping that tomorrow they would still be there

Merry Christmas all !
