Spare?

I have a 1969 442. I have one original tire (Goodyear polyglass). I want to do a good looking spare in the trunk with it. Please help!

The question is, am I stuck using an ssii wheel or is there something else that might fit better? The other wheels are all 14" ssii. The tire is a 14" too.

Thanks

Not mine but an idea of what I'm thinking. How did they place the spare from the factory?

ALL 5 tires & wheels were the same - got pics of your original spare?

If the car came from the factory with SuperStock wheels, the spare was also a SuperStock wheel. Cars with SuperStock wheels had the jack handle mounted in clips, unlike cars that had plain steel wheels.

I need to paint my jack for my 69 442. Pretty sure the base and handle are black, but the jack assembly and post are spraypainted silver. Is that correct?

If you are asking about SSII/SSIII wheels, they were either Argent or body color, to match the other four.

Was the spare SSII a bare wheel with no trim on it?

do you have a picture of your spare? I asked because at the beginning of the 1969 model year - the REDLINE was the only POLYGLAS available & the RWL GOODYEAR tire was a "Goodyear Speedway" with "WIDE TREAD F70-14" in RWL - not sure if a RWL Polyglas became available later in the model year ??

I was actually referring to the holder.

It came with the bezels and the bolt-in center, but no trim ring. You were supposed to transfer the trim ring from the wheel with the flat (just like the hubcap for cars with those).

SS wheels sat face up like in that diagram. Steel stamped wheels sat face down and used the jack base and a longer stud and a big wing nut to be held down. Bear in mind that all of these wheels were recessed compared to the tire on the side facing down, so it really just is a rubber inflated tire sitting on the trunk pan. Nothing will fit better or worse, unless you have something that pokes down lower than the bead on the bottom side.

If you want more room, get a universal donut that is smaller.

I'm sorry, but what exactly are you calling the "spare holder"? The WHEEL? The jack base? The nut?

The base I guess? All I have is this spare and some random 'spare' parts in the trunk. I haven't gone through it to see what's there I'm just assuming it needs a bit of tlc. When you open the trunk all you should see is the spare?

Thanks

See the above sticker. Your wheel, right there, sits in the trunk face up. It has a center cap on it, and the trapezoids on it. Factory, you did not get a fifth trim ring, but there is no reason why you could not buy one. Your lug wrench is semi-gloss black, it fits in clips shown. Those clips were probably parkerized.

The bumper jack, which should not be used unless in emergency, sits under the tire. The stick is zinc chromide. The mechanism is semi gloss black, the base is semi gloss black. The bumper hook is semi gloss black. It has a pad for the bumper. They sit under the tire in a way that works, just wiggle it around. The bolt hook goes through the hoop in the trunk floor. It is parkerized.

Stick it up through a lug hole. Attach nut, which is parkerized. Hand tighten to start. Tighten by hand as much as you can go, then put a little bit from the lug wrench on it. Stow wrench.

Thank again. Should I respray the trunk area with splatter paint (I think that's what it's called)?

Yes. Fusick and other places have it. Get the right one for your year. A trunk mat is also a good idea, available repro.
