A 'remote' feel good story
Last week my missus and I were in the line up at the market and an older lady (paraplegic) rolled up behind us. She didn't have much so invited her to go in front of us. Long story short we helped her to her car and loaded her bags and wheelchair for her. Then it got interesting.
She was having some trouble with her remote key fob. It turns out it needs replacing as even with new batteries it doesn't work well. She mentioned that a dealer told her between 300 - 500.00 for it, and someone in another city she was visiting told her about 1000.00. I was stunned and told her that IMO they were preying on her. I know that remotes for her year (2006 Dodge Magnum) can be bought on line for less than 40.00 so I mentioned that to her.
She was somewhat worried that it would be difficult to do the programming. I looked it up for her and a new remote (amazon) was 24.95 and comes with programming instructions. Honest to God, if you can put a key in the ignition, you can program the new remote. I showed her the instructions and she was surprised how easy it was.
I know that her remote is not indicative of all of them, but this sure worked out well for her! The lord puts us in places at certain times for good reasons.
It was kind of a feel good day to help someone who was being taken advantage of simply because she has lost use of her legs. While we were at her car I asked if she had recently been in an accident. She was surprised and said the car had been! Turns out one of the service techs at the garage she gets it serviced didn't know how to use her hand controls and swung it into the back of another car. She asked how I would know that. It was easy - there was still masking tape on the inside leading edge of the door. She's going to have them remove it because it's too tight for my fat fingers.

Those remotes while convenient are very expensive to replace at a dealership. Your right they were trying to have sex with her. A Dodge remote should not cost that much including the programming. You did a nice thing Allan.
