I realize this is an old thread, but hopefully some of the more versed posters on carburetor stampings can give their input as to whether the part number on this carburetor looks legitimate or tampered with.
I have owned several 7040253 carbs for a 70-442 (4 speed). All have never had the build date stamp to the left as this one. Rather the stamp is underneath the 7040253 underneath and to the right side (unless it is a service carb and those date stamps are in that same spot on the left side and date stamped with a non 1969 or 1970 later date). Just my experience.

Thanks for the information. After reading your post, I want back to the other carburetor photos and saw what you said about the date code being to the right of the part number. And the stamped manufactured date being late 1970 if the carburetor is a service item. Do you know anything about the stamped dots before and after the part and date numbers?
While searching the subject, noticed the stamped date code on Quadrajet carburetors manufactured for Chevrolet engines is under the part number and even with the first digit of the part number, not unlike the carburetor part number I posted. Not certain if the carburetors shown were restamped or valid.
Based on the location of the numeral 7 as part of the 7040258 sequence part #, it seems off. I have never seen a stamp that starts so far left on that area of the pad. And the numeral 5 as part of the build date looks a tad high. Beyond that, if it is a restamp it looks pretty darn good as we have all seen worse. I am sure others might have an opinion. Those super early build dates are extremely rare since the bulk were built in Nov and beyond into 1970.
That's Brian Budovsky selling the carb. He's well known in Olds circles on FB and I doubt very seriously he's into selling re stamped parts. I'm not saying it is or isn't a re stamp but he has a good reputation. I just thought I would add this info about the seller. He is also selling the 258 pictured previously in this thread.
