Upgraded.....
Stripe Officer JP will love this one. Chevelle trunk stripes with obligatory H/O wing, AND...drum roll please... 70 W side stripes.
Thankfully the trunk and hood are decals. The side stripes could be as well as they look flat too. Hood stripes can stay as they belong.
The only thing missing is fuzzy dice a 70 W25, a 68-69 W package & 68 W36.
This is a really beautiful post, code 69, parchment, bench, stick car.
Here is a perfect example of a shop a tad out of control with Mecum aspirations.
A well-executed older rotisserie nut and bolt resto needlessly ran through a doll-up again to attempt to squeeze top dollar from someone not in the know.
Slightly devalued in Oldsmobile eyes...mine. To each their own but don't mess with such a nice low-number example.
All reversible including correcting the wing holes and exhaust trumpets.
Yeah, and you forgot the 1970 pace car. My point was the location of the wing stanchions.
And your photo also demonstrates why Olds didn't put a wing on these.

Agreed.
Just when you think you have seen shitty stripes another example comes around. Terrible stripes. Puke
the right side of that bumper seems about an inch lower. Could be paralax, but from this angle, it bothers me. Oh yeah--the stripes and the trumpets, too.
The stripes should start at the hood and follow up to the roof and then continue down to the trunk, and then to finish it up, put some W-36 stripes on the fenders

100 percent crap. Zero knowledge or love for Oldsmobile history. One of the reasons I Hate cars built to make a dollar and that's the only care. Look how shitty ALL of those stripes look. Let alone the lame *** spoiler that was never available.

Joe P. I always thought Oldsmobile didn't finish the job by putting trunk stripes on. My W-30 had trunk stripes three months after it was delivered...I finished the job for Oldsmobile. I figure Oldsmobile saw my car and decided to try it on the Pace Cars. And I didn't order a wing when I ordered my W-30.
Different width stripes or different stanchions could have made it work. The stripes and wing on the car posted is the result of people didn't think through the paint "Upgrade". The word "Upgrade" has become an abused word in this day and age.
This is just my opinion but it really sucks to see someone spend so much time and so much work just to fumble at the end. That car could have been so beautiful. Nope. Some non Oldsmobile IDIOT has to put the stupid *** wing and lame *** stripes. Shame. Oh my gosh I HATE wings and stripes where they were never factory. You are an absolute idiot.
Agreed. This is actually a very nice car. If it goes for under 40 its a steal.
Remove the side & trunk stripes, wing and put an OE exhaust system in and its a condition #1 car. well maybe a 2. Correct the under hood stuff maybe a 1.
That car would have been so beautiful just silver. No lame stripes. No dumb *** spoiler especially on a 69. Clueless zero Oldsmobile knowledge build. Built to try to make a dollar. Period.
It's hard to out do the factory design team. this includes interior and wheel design as well, I think there are wheels that out there that do work well but many fall short of the factories original design.
The 69 442 fits into the crimes against design category
Zero Olds soul or knowledge.
At least it didn't get the obligatory 70 W25 or a BBC "upgrades" thrown at it...dodged those bullets.
Actually the Hemmings auction info said the hood n trunk were decals. Not sure about the sides. But they look flat like the others. Could be as easy as stripping off decals. Leave the hood alone.
By the pictures the car looked like a strong condition 2. Prob needed 5-10K put into it to correct the wrongs for us purists. Still a deal if it went under 40K. 1 of 1267 stick 34477s.
Didn't see if it sold. Last check high bid was stuck at 30K, reserve not met.
Rest assured if it didn't sell you will see it on TV for twice the price.
I still don't understand the hatred for the wings. I've always thought they look pretty good and compliment the lines and give it a bit more muscular look. I get that they aren't for everyone, but to each his own. Myself, I can't stand the body colored painted factory wheels. Hideous.

Those are factory-style SS I's and that's the way they came.

Like you said all just an opinion. For me I think the spoiler takes away from the body lines. Growing up in the seventies eighties etc I only ever saw ONE car with a factory wing. One. To me they have become one of the most overplayed additions on an Oldsmobile. Especially on cars that they were never available on. Including this 69 442. Never available.
Clean unadulterated 69 442 . I do think 15" aftermarket SS 1 style rim is an upgrade, 14" rims are just a bit small in my opinion. We used to run 14" in the front and 15's in the back that worked as well. When it comes to stripes if the factory did not offer them, they are best left off the car. 69 HO is the only 69 that should be sporting a spoiler, It's one reason I like the 68 HO's better than the 69 455 power plant with out the SHAM WOW. The 69 HO works but it just has more over the top styling. Modifying the looks of a car well is hard to do well.
PS. The one and only car that I ever saw with a factory wing other than a Hurst car was an absolute stipper 70 442. I am trying to dig up the picture. It was a 70 442. Column shift car. Bench seat. Sport mirrors and a wing. Nothing else. Steel hood. Vicking? blue. I have a picture somewhere.
