Yes. I just didn't feel like going into the analysis and justification of business. You obviously know how it works, and I respect that. I also know how it works and make my decisions accordingly. I especially agree with you that if PP built their customer base on solid service and products they would be on par with companies like Fusick's and Thorntons's.

All problems get resolved EVENTUALLY. They may not get resolved the way we would like them to but they get resolved. How they get resolved depends greatly on the parties involved.

Sorry to hear that, but just curious, to now what was the name of this company? And is possible that the delivery company did it? And if so maybe the liability may be with how they packed it who knows? But i do know that thorntons make they and they are actually licensed my gm to make the actual hood. I pray thats not who your talking about, because they are restoring my 1970w3o.

boy it just kills me to read all of this. I have heard the stories and even seen a bit of it in person. I recommend PP to many people as I do all the vendors here - except for Brother's. I guess I now need to say caveat empor. I do get treated well, maybe because I go in person but that does not excuse them for this.

I have owned a few businesses now for 20 years and I'll tell you that it is 50/50. It seems the client is wrong at least half the time but you can't tell them that, at least not directly. I will also respond and say getting the initial client's (depending on the type of business) is the hardest thing to do so keeping them is of most importance.

I always tell employees it takes years to win a client, it takes seconds to loose them. I also say bad news travels way faster than good news, rarely do you hear people say thank you but you hear what went wrong all the time. What's the saying "you can smell a dead person before you see them" same with customer service.

Ever talk to the cable company or a refrigerator company now a days. It is actually the opposite, since CS is outsourced to India they are so well trained that the last time I spoke to them I told them 'Please do not tell me one more time you understand and want to fix my problem, because you don't!" They read off of a script. It works to a point and then just back fires. Next time I'm at the PP I'll bring this thread up to Joe. Lots of Ammo here, again whether its just Olds guys or not with the web it travels very fast - there are only so many cars and so many people spending money.

Well I just bought some stuff form them over the phone. No issues. Now the rep wasn't the most friendly but he answered my question and the parts were great. Had them within a week. Also ordered some from Fusick and they are great to deal with. Until I have an issue I'll use them if needed.

So I ordered a RAM air hood from PP I believe Thursday night.....completed transaction Friday.........Tuesday I received shipping info that stated the hood had been shipped the day before.......I gave them my home phone when I should've gave them my cell when I filled out the order. Because of that mistake I could've gotten the hood on Tuesday because I didn't check the home phone voicemails til late Tuesday. The hood was delivered yesterday (wednesday)........on my lunch break. Pulled it out the box to examine....everything looked fine. The light weight springs and everything else was present. So far so good. All in all a good experience. I will be doing business with them in the future.

I too have had a decent experience with the Parts Place except for when I ordered the sport steering wheel and horn kit. Never could get the horn to work and they told me I installed it wrong. I just figure someday I'll run in to a Parts Place employee and stick that horn cap where he will be very uncomfortable. Fusicks for me from now on.

I'm in the process of cloning a W31 and went down the list of parts in their catalog and purchased over $3000 worth of parts. The first issue was the seat covers didn't match. I had to pay a restocking fee for the PUI cover in exchange for Legendary. I didn't pull the covers out and compare them to the original color for several months. This was my fault. Second, I ordered a rubber trunk mat. The ad doesn't mention the mat being cut for the jack hook. Mat looks like someone took a box knife and made several rough cuts. Long story short, they wanted to charge me shipping ($19) to return the mat for a uncut mat. I explained the amount of business that I had done with them over the past 12 months, even called the BBB and they still would not bend. I will never spend another penny with TPP. And the BBB was worthless also!

Those mats do NOT come pre-cut for the jack hook. On the back side of the mat there are 2 ovals that specify which to cut. 1 is for 88 and 98 convertible models; the other is for all f85 floor mounted spares. If you got one that was already cut, they didn't send you a new mat - it was probably a return from someone else who botched the cutting. I'm attaching a couple pics so you can see what I'm talking about. This is what a NEW mat should look like.

That's exactly what I thought. I could tell the way the cut was made (hacked up) that there was no way it came from the manufacturer like that. And again, Joe argued until blue in the face and refused to eat the shipping for me to return. That's my last purchase from TPP. To loose a repeat customer and the chance this customer might spread the word about their poor CS over $19 is ridiculous.

I agree. Too bad it comes to that. But there are other places to buy parts now. So I now added PP to BAP on my 'don't buy from unless desperate' list.

Year One and Mr Fusick both class acts with high quality parts & excellent customer service.
FYI..Fusick offers the elusive front fender antenna for 68s! They have several Fusick only parts that even YO doesn’t have. You can tell a true enthusiast from a parts pusher.

Just got a load of parts from the Parts Place and they were perfect. I'm very happy.

I got a trunk lid, rear wing, chrome hold downs for the hood with the light springs (didn't need the springs because my hood has the steel frame, but didn't know they came with the order), the W30 emblems and the stripe stencils.

The biggest bonus is the holes for the rear wing are already marked in the underside of the trunklid. I won't need the measurements that I copied from this site. Although, I am going to check the markings with a tape measure just to make sure they match.

Also..........the girl that I dealt with was really helpful and patient (never ordered anything like this before so I probably sounded like a dunce asking all those questions).

Whenever I'm doing anything with sales and I'm new to doing it, I always look for a female to help me because they are always a lot more patient and friendlier than a male.

I guess I should have talked to the female. The a$$hole that I did talk to did not want me to return the incorrect part.(He said it was ok.) He also said it was only 79 or so dollars, so no big deal.Well $79 is a big deal to me,( actually it was closer to $125. figuring in shipping and brokerage fees!) {I never use a broker now, I learned my lesson!}
Glad to hear some have had success, but I will NEVER do business with those dickwads again! @%$#$% parts place!!

I'm assuming you're Canadian or otherwise you wouldn't need a broker? My question is, how do you get it shipped without using a broker? The parts I ordered added another $138 to my price. Luckily the company I work for gets a gov't discount so it made it $100 instead.

I'm wondering about the price tag on the 66 bumpers???? I have had this old girl for about 40 years, and have had the frame off, but the $750 per bumper seems a little high???

I can't speak for Bunser, but i have a mailbox (or address) in Port Huron. It is only 45 mins to an hour away. I wait till i have enough stuff to make it worth my while to drive there, which saves me on shipping and brokerage fees.

You can also clear the goods yourself. I did that with my OAI hood. I like Fusicks, Supercars Unlimited and OPGI, however Parts Place has parts for 73-77 and not just the weatherstripping, oil filters and stuff you can buy at any parts store.

I would like to get the factory blue floor mats they have for my car but now I'm not so sure. Last time I looked Fusicks, Supercars and OPGi, although they advertise that they supply from 64-77, they are really a 64-72 supplier. Parts Place really does have 73-77 parts, but if this is the way they treat people, I'll keep looking for now. Did anyone ever send them this thread?

Thank you for this thread!

I am fairly new to car restoration at all and for Olds cars, it seems to be a small world in terms of parts vendors.

I've ordered from Fusick, OPGI and BAP and haven't had problems. OPGI messed up a little, but they fixed it right away without charging me a dime.

Still, it is good to hear a general opinion on these places. Sounds like PP is going on my "avoid" list as well.

It's too far away for me. I live in south western Nova Scotia. The closest border crossing is St Stephen New Brunswick. I'd either have to take the ferry to NB, which is probably about $300+ by vehicle, or drive all the way around, which will be a 12 hour drive (one way) and cost me about $200 in gas. It's cheaper to go the brokerage route.

Since you're a "Bluenoser", I'll tell you a Canadian version of parts place. It's called "Ultimate Performance"...an excellent example of an oxymoron! They are out of Mallorytown Ontario. Stay far away from this band of shysters!!!

Put usa parts supply on your list as well. I ordered a COMPLETE sealing kit for my Jetaway transmission from them. The two seals that were leaking the most were missing in the kit. I told them my problem and they promised to resend the two missing seals. That was 4 months ago and I haven't heard anything from them even after writing them some e-mails. Needless to say that I'm done with them.

year one

75% of the time I get my parts from Year One, ordered a set of tail light lenses for my 70 Supreme, one came in damaged, called them and told them about it, response was I am sorry for the inconvience and sent me a new one no charge for shipping, I also asked if they wanted the broken one back, they said throw it away!

Fusick has been great also.

Shysters simply because I didn't want to offend anyone with the proper term for them! (Bet you didn't know that a 69 GTO rad cradle fits a 70 Cutlass!) They charged me a 25% restocking fee and I had to pay shipping costs ($125.) to return.

Now for you guys running down parts place, I'll have you know that at their location in Dekalb Ill., there is a bulletin board just after you enter and on the right side, which had at least 8 or 9 testimonials to parts place's superb service. Now this was on Saturday, July 7,2012. There could be more by this time!
Of course they were dated 2007,2009... and they "thought" they would be compensated. I didn't read all of them as I didn't really care for the place or the disinterested people inhabiting it.
B.T.W. has anyone heard of "latex" door weatherstripping that "looks just like original GM weatherstripping," and only costs $109.

I've had latex gloves in boxes just disintegrate after several years, presumably from oxidation. I don't imagine that any other latex product would be any different.

Is that the same weatherstripping that Tamraz is selling on eBay?

Who owns pp?

So who owns PP? Is it just Joe? How many employees? Got to have partners of some sort. i.e.bank-Just how big is this operation size and sales amount wise.
Can't bebeive all the negativity here. Sounds like BAP and a few sprinkeled here and there. I guess its in what I buy. Not big major parts but I have spent well over $ 10+grand with them and no complaints.
