Olds parts getting too expensive?

I know we will spend a lot more money for our Olds compared to a chebby or f*rd, but this is just a little crazy.

I think I should part out my car and retire.

$5000 for a non running 350?
$9500 for a running 350?
$18,000 for a 455? WTF?

Just another guy trying to rip people off. On cragslist I have seen complete 350 with transmission for $300 and a complete 455 for $500 which is about right.

I tell you what, I have both engines, a 350 from my old 68 cutlass and a 455 out of something from 69, how's about 1/2 the ebay price

seriously someone is cracked out on those prices, the engines aren't all that rare, for 18k you can get something hand build by joe mondello himself with fuel injection.

Unfortunately if there were not some people out there that would actually buy that stuff for that price, people wouldn't be able to ask those insane prices. Arodenhiser, looks like our Cutlaii were separated at birth!

Able to ask?! Best I heard it put is thusly: asking prices are nothing more than an exercise of one's first amendment rights. He might as well ask a billion dollars for all the good it'll do.

Yours is looking good! Someday I will get around to getting it painted. Right now I am just systematically fixing some body work, and spray bombing it in dark gray primer. Certainly not my first choice, but it is better then 10 different shades of 20 year old faded *** orange spraypaint! I was going to dothe infamous Rustoleum roll on paintjob, I even got the paint and painted the passenger side fender, and after 2 coats I stopped and wiped it all off. I'm sure after another 10 coats, wetsanding the entire car 5 times, and dealing with all the drips it would have been acceptable, but it was just WAY too much work for subpar results. I guess my time was worth something after all!

Cat has fell out of his farking tree and landed on his head. That or he's been partaking of the hooch they make up there. Musta run it thru a radiator and lead's affecting his thought process.

$2500 for a Toronado transmission indeed. You can get one rebuilt with all new internals for about half that.

Somebody smoking crack I think. As Joe P. says, the asking price doesn't mean anything. Put them on your watchlist and see what happens. Why do these dummies waste their money and time doing something this stupid. The only other reason could be "Honey, I put it on ebay and nobody even bid on it".

Probably had no clue what they were worth, so threw up a random number.
Then he has "Make an Offer" so he can get some insight.

Hell I need to advertise my complete 350 for $2000 just for the hell of it.
For the record though......yes Olds performance parts are pretty damn expensive.

18,000 should be able to get a nice intact good running 350 powered Cutlass that needs little to no work.

First, NOTHING lists on e-pay for free. Even if the item doesn't sell, you pay. Second, these are "make an offer" ads. Third, I don't really lose a lot of sleep over idiots like this.

What measurements are you looking for, just basic height, width, etc or bolting patterns? The car is in paint, but I have the passenger seat, almost intatct I can measure.

Hope this is what you needed.

Seat back - Shoulders to your butt - ~ 25 inches
Seat Back - Shoulders to very bottom - ~27 inches plus about 3 inches for the tracks that bolt to the floor. They are not on this seat.
Seat Base - From you butt to your knees - ~17 inches
Seat Base - Hip to hip - ~ 22 inches.

All 68-72 buckets are basically the same for all GM A bodys, even El Caminos, different covers/patterns, release bottons are in different spots, but the are all the same in size and fit. Your floor may or may not have the correct retainers for the factory buckets if it originally had a bench.

Adam.

you are correct, but you can list for free if you start the listing at 99 cents with no reserve.

even if somebody bid on them and won all the seller has to do is cancel the transaction, and he has ebay for free.

do you really think these 100k car sellers on ebay actually pay ebay fees?

those sellers cancel those transactions to screw ebay out of fees, and ebay cant do a thing about it.

Buyer and seller have to both agree on it to cancel the transaction , why would a buyer agree to cancel it and do business off Ebay ? at least with Ebay the buyer has some recoarse if he gets burned on the car , NOT MUCH RECOARSE but some ! As far as that guys asking prices , I say go for it , it brings all our values up in the process. But he is a dreamer or real dummy.

because somebody wants whatever it is on ebay real bad, that's why.

i just sold a set of $700 valve covers to a fellow.he bid $1000 on the covers to make sure he won,and i cancelled the transaction.
he agreed to cancel, because if he didn't i would not have sold them to him.

anything that screws ebay is fine with me

BET YOU HAVE GREAT FEEDBACK , lol
I agree Ebay is a money making machine and charge to many fees to sellers , but if someone needs parts now and cant find them then what else can they do but buy where they are available. It does not help when people F@@@ with them though.

PS what valve covers are worth 700.00 ?
