I'm 66 and learned to drive in a 37 Chevy pickup way before I was 12, though it was old then it was our only farm truck and was used everyday. First car I bought and paid for was 28 model AA ford truck with a dump bed there have been a bunch since then.
I've had several Oldsmobiles a 57 4 door then a 63 holiday and now of course the 55 which is my pride and joy....Tedd

Thanks for resurrecting the thread, cdrod. It's a fun thing to look at!
I'm 59, hitting the big 6-0 in February.
My first Olds experience was a 58 88 4dr HT my father brought home in 1960 after his 55 Packard suffered the wrath of the company Christmas party. What a chrome loaded boat! I loved it.
My first car was a 67 442 I got in late 72 after high school. A girl that was a friend of mine loved riding with me because she noticed that people always looked at us.It had a Vertex magneto, headers, remote dual oil filters (to clear the headers), M21, and was tri-carb (I know it was added after the fact). Managed to kill it in 6 months. Still have the magneto and trip setup.
Got another 67 Cutlass 2dr HT with a bad engine. That didn't work out too well.
In early 73 I got a 68 442 that was a screamer. Trouble was I couldn't keep a transmission in it. Split one case almost in half. Sold it to the that same girl, or at last the husband she acquired in March of that year.
Now I have a 67 442 I got 2 years ago. It's an ongoing project. I'm doing it so the girl that rode with me 42 years ago can ride with me again in it. We got back together 5 years ago.

My first car at 16 was my folk's 71 Ford LTD Station Wagon with the Big Block. I could spark off the studded snow tires at night! LOL What a sight to see! Six months later, the next Spring, got the 68 Cutlass S in my Avatar. It was originally Jade Gold Metallic with white painted top, white seats, black interior. I was in body shop in HS at the time and took it down to bare metal to make the exterior all black as you see in the avatar. There was an inch and half of filler on the driver's quarter! Pulled the bench seat and replaced it with buckets and a console from Checker! That one got totaled when I was rear ended on the highway, and was replaced with the 69 442 you see in my signature. From the insurance, I got $1300 and anything I wanted off of the Cutlass. I put it all into the 442: stereo, wheels/tires, ladder bars, air shocks (OMG!), and loved it till I blew a rod bearing. Then life happened - marriage, kids, etc. What feels like a lifetime later, I finally got to get BackInTheGame with my current 68 442 project. Hopefully I'll have it back on the road next spring - all fresh mechanically, if not aesthetically, yet.
What a fun thread! Brings back fond memories!! Thanks.

52 in less than two weeks, ugg.
1st car, 69 88 4 dr. 455 2 bbl.
Worked all Summer mowing lawns,
pulling weeds, whatever it took to earn $400.
My elementary teacher moonlighted for Simpson
Olds-Buick in Tulia back then. My Dad was so pissed
that he would sell a 14 yr old a car. But he let me
keep it on the farm, as long as I didn't take it out
on the highway....Thanks Dad.
I have had many Oldsies since then as well.
Some that stick out was a beautiful Navy blue
76 Ninety-Eight 2 dr. A 68 Toronado, fast! My 66 442 cpe. 73 H/O, 74 442, 69 442 4-speed vert,
really miss that one. A 72 Supreme that was loaded, a 67 Supreme 4-speed rescue from
sitting for 30 yrs. A 68 Delmont 88 455 vert. All are gone now but pretty happy with my current 66 442 vert.

I'm 45...my first car was handed down from my dad. It was his '71 Cutlass S, Lime green with green interior, bucket seats and console. I learned to drive in that car at 14 and he gave it to me when I turned 16! I drove it for a few more years and then thought I needed a newer car. He sold it off for 500 bucks (it was getting pretty rusty in the rear quarters) and I got a '79 Mustang that was in nice shape. That led thru the years with a '80 Firebird Formula, an '88 Mustang, a '90 Blazer, an '94 Grand Am, a '99 Caravan, a '00 Grand Am. Then I came back home to Olds...we bought a '01 Alero, then a '02 Bravada, which is still my daily driver today. I knew some day I would find another '71 somewhere. That happened in 2011 when I found my '71 Cutlass SX. I guess it was kinda like destiny. Still wish Dad would have hung on to his Green '71 and fixed her up. No one really thought it would have become the kind of classic they now are. We love these cars and its cool to share the experience of automotive nostalgia with your Dad after all these years!

Cool thread!
Im 60, learned to drive in a 62 Olds 98 4 door. Man that was a long car, I bumped the pole parallel parking test but he still passed me. The 98 was kind of a hand me down car for me and my sister, until we got a 66 Impala sport coupe. It was a 283 two barrel, 3 on the tree yellow with black interior, bench seat. My first car to upgrade, put a 4 barrel, dual exaust, mags dark center cant remember what brand and white letter tires. It ran very nice and i could double clutch that 3 on the tree and shift it hard...lol. Out ran alot of 327's. My first Olds when i was 19 was a 67 Tahoe Turquoise 442. Beautiful car, black bucket seat interior with 4 speed factory air car. I blew that motor on the highway, spun the main bearings. It was the first motor i ever built, it started the first crank. I was a happy kid! Now im building this red 67 442 but will paint it Tahoe Turquoise, just dont care for red cars. They look great but just not for me.

I am 55...bought a 69 delta 88 convertible two years ago. Wanted one ever since my parents traded a perfectly good 70 Delta 88 ragtop for a 75 Ford "Gutless" LTD when I got my learner's permit...

I'm 33
First car was a 1986 Ford LTD. First Car I bought was a 83 cutlass. Motor went out and got replaced with a 455 bb 175 shot of nos and that started it all. Older friend back then had a 70 convertible and since then I wanted one. 14 years later I'm working on her and hopefully she will be ready this coming summer!

48 here. Learned in my mothers 67 Cutlass when I was 15. I was suppose to get the car after I got my license but step father sold car to his niece whom totaled the car within 2 months. The first car I bought was a 72 Cutlass 4 door and I drove it for a long time!
BTW, Moms car was just like the one I'm working on and had about 22K miles on it.

I'm 29. I learned to drive using my mom's Hyundai Sante Fe, 2013 I think. My 1988 Delta 88 is my first car. Interestingly despite being about the same length as the Sante Fe mine's got twice the leg room. Sure don't make them like they used to in that department.

I'm 50, and my car is 50. Structurally, we're both in pretty decent shape, with a few strange noises here and there. We still have some get up and go, just not like we did years ago. We're a little rough for the wear here and there, but overall getting by pretty good. We are considering a repaint and a facelift next Spring to bring us back to our "chick magnet" status, lol!

Typo? When did you start driving?

I see that many people are posting their actual age when all the title of this thread asks for is that you post your age bracket.
I'm between 8 and 80, and that's all I'm sayin'!

I am between 57 and 59. My 65 98 convert is my first Olds and not on the road yet.
As a matter of fact, I have never driven an Olds or worked on one. I think it is the only American brand of my generation I haven't driven or worked on.

Is being between dust and worm bait an age group?
I'm 65... first car was a 55 Bel Air 265 3 speed on the floor. 1st Olds was a 66 tri-power post car that used to jam in 2 gears if I down shifted too fast... had to keep a hammer in the car so I could crawl under it and whack the linkage. At 19, it never occurred to me to just fix the friggin' thing.
Other Oldsmobiles I've owned:
1968 Cutlass 4 speed
1969 442 drop top
1971 Cutlass S
1973 Delta 88
Currently restoring a '68 442 post

I'm 53. First car owned (since '81) is the '68 Cutlass S in my sig (still own), which is the car I took my first driving test in when it belonged to mom. 2nd Olds I owned was a '69 Toronado, owned ~ 2 years before losing it to my first ex. Only other Olds I owned was a '70 Cutlass Supreme 'vert (350-2bbl / TH350). Had to sell that before my 2nd ex destroyed it or took it. Now staying focused on upgrading my '68, and hopefully getting my 4 y/o son interested in it enough that he wants it when he turns 16 (he'll have to pry it from my cold dead fingers!!!).

I'm 48 and got my first (and current) '72 Vista Cruiser 11 years ago. I needed a "soccer mom" vehicle and refused to have a mini van or suburban in my driveway. A classic wagon was the natural choice! I love the car! While it will never be my daily driver, I expect it to be reliable and hope to use it as a towing vehicle as soon as I can figure out the towing capacity.
