More items from the country that gave us COVID-19. You are putting your life at risk using that SH&T. I will go miles out of my way to avoid buying anything that comes from there. Only when there is no other choice will I, and then you will here alot of screaming and hollering. Guy

More reasons why I DO NOT shop Harbor Freight! Junk crap. I have bought glass for the blaster there but that is all.

 

Harbour freight is ok for things that are rarely used. Most of their hand tools are junk in my opinion. Another example of getting what you pay for.

After my rant last night I looked up different Jack Stands made in USA, They are not cheap but what is your life worth! I saw a set that intrigued me. They were made with a square tube inside another square tube, 4 gussets with a base plate and a top plate. holes drilled through both tubes to set height. They were rated at 5 tons each. Now I know the raw materials would not be that much Money they would be easy to build even for me. depending on the materials you use you could make them to hold 10 tons if need be. We all have gotten lazy, if we need something we just go out and buy it. What happened to the ingenuity that our Fathers and Grand Fathers had, LOST FOR CONVENIENCE!!!!! I will get off my soap box now and shut up. Guy

 

Because GM, Ford, and Chrysler have NEVER had a safety recall...

 

A friend of mine was killed by a faulty jack a few years ago.

I ALWAYS practice the 2X safety factor when I am under my cars.

Jack stands AND 6"x6" blocks. If one fails, the other is a back up.

Or, build cribbing that the tires rest on.

Don't gamble with your life.

 

For everyone who want's to bash HF or make this a political issue, all I can say is that you should actually read the list of recalls from the CPSC. Lots of US companies on that list...

I bought (4) of the 6 ton stands when all the wheels where stolen off my 2015 Navigator...(2) days before Christmas 2016. At least the crooks stole my neighbor's Pavestones and placed them under the disc brakes. It took six weeks to get the factory replacements so I bought these to get off the brakes and hold her up until they came in. Since then we have used them under the Nova & Cutlass on numerous occasions while chasing oil leaks, replacing shocks, etc. Very thankful that nothing bad happen. Just loaded them up in the truck and heading to HF to return them. HF is about 2-minutes from my shop so I hope the stores are ready for them.

US Jack advertises there jacks are 100% us made. The Jack Stands I wrote about I can no longer find. they had the gussets go all the way up to the top of the outer square tube with a 9 inch base they also had a 3"X 4" top pad and was a pin type. Looked very well made I'm not a big fan of jack stands, metal on metal is slippery I use 4 X 6 X 16 Oak cribbing ( got about 30 ) they are a pain in the butt. BUT nothing is going to fall. If I was to use Jack Stands I would Fab My own Hope this helps Tim. Guy

I bought mine through a Mac tools dealer,I've had other people mention they are available at Napa.

 

I had a set of the 6 ton ones. Returned got my $$ back. They didn't have any in stock to replace with. So I left with a puller kit and rechargable led under hood light I had been wanting. I'll pick up more jack stands another time. I only used those working on the truck.

I wonder is all the jack stands of that type have a recall. I have an older set from Loews that look just like those, but don't see any recalls on them. When I use mine, I make sure they are locked in before setting the car on them.

 

Good information thanks for posting. While none of my x6 jack stands (x2 3TON, x4 6TON) are listed anywhere I can find for any recalls, it makes one stop and consider none-the-less. It makes one wonder whether the same facility is employed for manufacturing jack stands which receive the same methods of manufacturing but labeled under various manufacturers names.

I've been using x2 6TON jack stands (ACDelco #34115) under my 2003 F250 Lariat diesel (6,390lbs) for over 10 years w/o issues. I generally jack only the front or rear of the F250. They do have locking tabs for the ratchets. And, I use both of the 6TON ACDelco jack stands and a pair of 6TON AUTOCRAFT (#AC922) jack stands under my 1971 CS convertible which remains on jack stands for extended periods of time. I have x2 3TON Craftsman I use for lighter stuff. Bigger is better (generally). Thankfully no recalls on any of them.

When you look up the trademark histories of manufacturers of various machinery, machines, machine parts, companies, etc. - there's no doubt the automotive industry parts supply manufacturers reads like a cornucopia of purchases from one company to another.

 

I have a set of 3 ton HF jacks that are not included in the recall. However, the whole thing kind of gives me the shakes and I doubt I will ever trust then again. I guess I need to go shopping.

 

I had got my first two jack stands ever a little over a year ago. I have used wood blocks for all my life. I suspect I will stick to the wood blocks most often.

 

I weld two wheels together by the lips, so I have stands of 5", 8", 12" and 16" with a base circle of 16" or more. I add wood on top to get the needed height. I do have jackstands and use them too, but don't trust them too much. Even if the latching is secure, the base is not so big, especially compared to the height they can be extended.
