Don't Take Shortcuts

There maybe times when some of us will take a quick shortcut and get away with it. A long time hotrodder and experienced member of our car club was killed recently when he was crushed while using a bottle jack. It can happened that fast, even while reaching under to set your jack stands.

My condolences to the gentleman's family. Very hard to loose a loved one. Especially when one is partaking in a hobby he must have enjoyed.
My bother in law, who usually had me do his work on his hotrod, decided to do some work on the car, up on stands. I told him jack it up, put minimum of 4 jackstands and leave the floor jack up tight right were you are working. I think I scared him cause he used 6 and some big wooden blocks. I was proud of him. Never, never risk life or limb for a quick fix. That's the way all the accidents happen.

My Dad always ingrained in us to leave the jack under the car even if you had it up on stands. It was sometimes a pain to have to work around the jack, but he always countered that with " Better a pain in the neck, than a car on your neck."

I feel for the guy that lost his life though and my condolences go out to his family.

I used to think a hyd jack is sufficient, then one day the hyd cyl on my old tractor broke when I had a load in the bucket, needless to say I don't wander under anything held up only by hydraulics, sorry for your loss

I hate to hear that - so preventable.

The double up suggestion is a good one, and I follow it religiously.
