I love it, why would you walk away from that? The way I see it, it's either this or crack. Either way it's an addiction.

Don't own a wagon, but I am a wagon guy. If I had a place to keep it, I'd buy the Vista in today's classified from the Albany, NY craigslist. The wife is no help, she told me email them, for more pictures although she likes the green 71' in the R.E. Olds Museum the best. Absolutely gorgeous red 72' in last weeks Cali craigslist. Good luck with the project and if you get tired of it in a few year and I move north I'll come pick it up.

PS If that's your shop you don't have enough cars.

Soooo bad , that the cross member is rusted off on pass side , there is no frame there. motor and trans are held in by chains.
One of my friends is 100% that the frame from a S10 extended cab truck will work under this car by cutting 2" out of frame, and using the frame horns from wagon onto the s10 frame ????

You are not alone. If I had a shop like that I'd have to many cars too. Tough break on the wagon, it's a really nice car.

Go read his other post about the frame and floor being rusted out. VC parts are unique. You'll need to buy another complete parts car to fix that, and will have waaaay more money into it than it's worth. The OP is talking about using this for a custom project, so value is apparently not an issue at that point.

So build a new chassis! There are plenty of dirt car shops capable of fabbing repair sections. Street rods shops, rat rod shops ect. The op could make his own also if he sets up a leveling table.

Of course one can do all that. Go back and read the part about not economically viable. You can buy a really nice VC for far less money than fixing one like this. Frankly, for what he paid for this car, I'd sell the roof glass and pocket the difference.

There comes a time with every car as to where do you draw the line between a viable project and salvage. If the S10 frame can work it would make a great project with very little investment. If not, then Joe's suggestion of it becoming a donor for what good parts remain so other cars can live is the most viable. The remaining mass may bring a couple a dollars scrap.

When I said Joe said run, I was agreeing with him, I should have ran. But I do plan to make this into a 2 door wagon, I'm not going to shorten car, just put longer front doors on it. for now It will set in the corner of garage until I'm ready for it. I need to get my 70 cutlass done. Sooo No more cars! I know I told my wife that 100 times now.

Did you see the 64 Pontiac Lemans wagon that was made into a 2 door in Hot Rod magazine? Really cool. I wonder if you could make a 2 door Vista? Wouldn't that be neat???

If your going custom, you might as well spend the money and get an aftermarket frame. RoadsterShop.com just came out with the "SPEC" series complete rolling chassis for $9,995. Here is a link to a chevelle wagon:

Not going to the yard any time soon as the WASP are real bad you don't want to bother them in this heat.

Gerald, that yard is impressive. Looks like a score of Oldsmobile parts. Do they have a lot of 71' 72' A body stuff?

Wow
I have not seen a yard like that for 15 years.

Ahhh brings me back to my Northern Cali junkin days. Coming from the rust belt I was absolutely amazed to see what Californians call junk! Same for Arizona.

And likewise, those of us in California are amazed at what folks back east call good and usable. LOL! I think I might know this yard, but maybe not. There are a number that look like this. I personally HATE when they stack cars. It ruins good parts and makes it nearly impossible to buy small parts off them sometimes. It sucks.
