Generator light goes on and off

been noticing it for awhile now , it only goes on for a split second and then back off whenever I take my foot off the brake...... other then that the car starts fine , and the battery is about 1 year old and seems to be charged up good when I go to start the car...... I know it could be alot of different things , but anyone else ever have this issue ?

Then it could be that. My alternator of uncertain age does the same thing. Of course, it could be a short in the wire for the light, or even the instrument cluster itself.

Could it be a loose connection on the small back post?

Or a loose under-dash connection that moves when you press the brake pedal...

I had an odd issue with the GEN light. Do your other lights on the instrument cluster work? I had a fuse that was blown, but tested good, the filament was just barely completing the circuit at the break (enough for an ohm meter), but could not carry the amperage needed for the circuit. The GEN light did weird things until I replaced it.

Put a voltage gauge on it, and check just how much that brake light circuit is bogging the system down. It shouldn't be much.

Alternator could be at very low output at idle and when you apply the brake, the added current draw from your brake lights could take it into discharge, and then back to charge when you release the brake! Good way to test that is to brake it with left foot, then push on the gas pedal and see if "idiot" light goes out when RPMs rise! My bet is this is your problem and changing the alternator will be in your future!!

I thought I would add ..... while sitting in my car running in park with the heater on I noticed the gen light flashed on and off real quick the second I shut the power to the heater off .... that seems kind of strange that it would do that when im cutting the power off

455 heads

I did not want to start another thread just for this little bit of info , after finding out where the stamping for the head ID was I went to my moms house to see which ones I have ..... and they would be " C " heads , these are decent heads right ? I may have to sell the 455 and get another one later on , because of money

Put a voltmeter across the battery. Should read a min. of 13.5V at idle, heater fan on high and lights on. 14-15 is right on.
