Gasket set

Im looking to replace all the gaskets on my 68 400. Ive heard dont use cheap and dont use cork. I will be replacing everything except the head gaskets. Ive seen sets from $40-280.
Does anyone have a part number for a good gasket set?

I've used felpro for years. The CS8171-2 should cover most of it.

VS50259rfor the valve cover gasket, at least they say it's rubber, not cork.

You can try to find a gasket set for a diesel to get rubber, but I don't think they make them anymore. Rocket Racing has rubber valve cover gaskets. You can use a neoprene BBF instead of the rope rear main.

To be honest with you I have better luck with cork for the valve covers on some engines. The rubber replacements are usually too thin and wont compress to match the usually mangled valve covers. No matter how hard you try it is almost impossible to get the valve covers as straight as they were when new.

Otherwise I always use Fel Pro.

I also recommend the rubber valve cover gasket. Note that there are two versions, so ensure you get the thick ones recommended above

FEL-PRO VS50259R are 11/64" thick
FEL-PRO VS13403R are 3/32" thick

As long as it’s a decent gasket, proper surface prep and installation is more important than the brand.
