Fuel additive

Do those of you who still run original engines without "hard" valve seats use any additives in your gas? If so, what do you use?

No, its not required. The seats don't wear much with todays fuel. You have to remember that the lead was added for the anti-knock characteristics and the bonus benefit was it somewhat coated the seats.

I don't often use a fuel additive, but when I do, I use TEL!

I have four "antiques" with original engines currently. I don't use any fuel additive for the valves and, so far, there have been no valve problems.

No additives for me. I just run 93 octane and have no knocks or problems in the last 2 plus years.

I just run pump gas in my 327 Chevy powered Land Cruiser and have from the time we couldn't get leaded fuel sometime in the seventies. Probably 40,000 miles with no problems...Tedd

I used Octane Supreme until I had the engine rebuilt. Not sure it needed it, but I did not have any problems. Since rebuild, I just use 93 at the pump. No problems.

driving habits play into this for sure. my take is if your running it hard the valves will sink quicker without that little bit of lead. if your a moderate driver it shouldnt be a problem with unleaded

I use no additive now.

Before I polished the combustion chambers I used Octane Supreme (tetraethyl lead / TEL) to increase the octane, but don't need it now.

I have used a pint of transmission fluid to a tank of gas. This is something I learned from my Grand Pappy many moons ago.
