Factory mistake, dealer applied or ???
Factory mistake, dealer applied or ???
Attached is a picture of the glove box door from my '68 442. As can be seen from the picture it has both the Cutlass and 442 emblem. Just wondering what everybody thought as to whether this is a factory mistake, a dealer add or someone just decided to put the two emblems on the glove box door.
The car is a numbers matching 442, 4-speed convertible and the only parts that were not within a few weeks of the build date when I got it were the alternator and the voltage regulator.

Intentional alteration
These are originals I have, my guess is someone modified yours, as in 69 the 442 was of course a separate model from the Cutlass. But it does look cool. Great car, hope you can post some pics we all luv pics. Best of it all.
I did new car set-up at Mopar and Chevy dealers years ago... not unusual back them to have wrong emblems, extra emblems etc. We'd often find extra emblems, nuts, bolts and such tossed under the seats. Heaven help us if a picky owner discovered a couple fasteners under the seat... they'd come down to the dealer complaining that the factory forgot to install some bolts.
I remember a '67 Chevelle coming off the transporter with one 327 fender badge and one 283...

I always wonder what the quality control was like back then. My car came from the factory with a Parchment interior with black carpet. It also came from the factory with one black a pillar and one white a pillar.
I had a car in my repair shop once that was a great example. It was either a Plymouth horizon or a Dodge omni. They are the same car, but this one came in with the name plate Omni on the front and back then the name OMNI was in big letters on the door. This one said OMNI on the passenger door. On the back was a Horizon name plate and on the Driver door was in big letters Horizon. When writing up the reciept I asked if it was an omni or a horizon. The customer was astounded as it was bought new and never had any body work. What I found amazing was that she said she never noticed and had the car for over 5 years since it was new. Go figure. Yes she was blonde, but her father never noticed either, but he was gray. Maybe that explains it.
