E heads
Just looked back at this and do not know what happened to the previous thread... What I wanted to know is how big a frown am I gonna get if I take my dremel tool and make my large valve E heads into F heads. My car is a 71 W30 CLONE and nothing but a clone for me and me only. Just curious

Just as I thought I can see the head shaking and frowning from the purists now . A dremel tool and a punch to make cast marks...come on to each his own

There are plenty if E's out there that are now promoted to F's,but the casting numbers are harder to change, and there were only a few dates that they were cast.
For that matter,I would just take G's and make H's,if you have a 71. Maybe Octania will shed some insight on this.
You have a clone car,so why not some clone heads.

I think Chris may do that as well.
To each his own. A clone is a clone.
If you could find originals, who the heck
can afford them anyway. I thought I saw
a post here that a member had some F's
for like 3600 bucks. Too rich for my blood.

You are correct on the 71 heads but since the car came with a 70 model 455 in it with 10.5 comp. large valves, cam, ect I just worked with what I had. I have a pretty good idea that back in the day this car saw some street action. Early on someone probably grenaded the original motor and replaced it with the stouter 70. When I took the drive train out for restoration all was orig. but the motor and it had definitely been in the car for many years. Thanks

If it's just for performance, you're not going to see anything from removing half an ounce of metal from the castings. If it's not the correct setup, and you don't mind it, why do you want to change the letters on the heads? It won't help the internals.
I think you came in here looking for a fight, and I have no idea what was in the original posts. I am not going to give you one, other than to say that one is not a "purist" because they don't care for misrepresentation. Yes, I know it's just for you, and you may be quite sincere in your belief that that is the case. The problem is that classic cars are toys, and toys get sold when the interests wane, or people upgrade, or money gets tight. People that can't afford the real deal, and who clone because of it, are especially vulnerable to the money getting tight.
So, the clone you made eventually gets sold. You, as an honest man, tells the next guy what it is, and take the hit on the price being the price of a clone. Or, maybe not, but let's assume you do. The NEXT guy will eventually sell it, and who knows what he will say. Even IF you just intend to keep it for yourself, eventually it will fool someone else and get passed off as real. It's an irresponsible thing to do, because, unless you destroy the car before you die, it WILL outlast you.
However, there is a bright side to all this. You, and others, monkeying with cars, and trying to pull fast ones on other people, even if it's "just for you," drive the value of unmolested originals up. The people who clone always forget something, or miss something, or do something wrong, and they get caught by those who know better, and who don't "frown and shake their heads" like you suggest, but rather laugh in scorn.
