The bumper is the same for 1971/1972 F85, Cutlass, Cutlass S and Cutlass Supreme, so don't narrow your search to just the Supreme.

And of course you're daring us to ask you why...

That's a common item. I've got a driver condition one in Oregon for $50 plus shipping. I'm sure there's a dozen guys closer to you that also have them. I'd encourage you to create a parts wanted ad and see what gets offered up.

Thanks John but the one that's on it is only 3 or 4 yrs old so I'm looking for a new one.

I was backing out of a driveway/parking lot. rubber necking back and forth looking for a break in traffic. Who new? - there was a utility pole 3 ft behind me right in the middle of the lot and....well, I hit the dam thing.

In that case one of the repop ones on ebay might be your best bet. I can change the title of your post for you, hopefully someone who has purchased one of these will chime in. I do know one person who purchased the Tamarz one and he was happy with it. John

I will throw my hat in the ring after John

I have this one, lights don't go with it but otherwise ready to bolt on w/ frame brackets

Can possibly get it to Waco for you to then pick up

I found the post re: the bumper from Tamraz. It's by Golden Star which I've found to be decent quality body panels for other projects. The member seems happy with with it and it's priced right, comparatively.

I don't know for certain about the bumpers, however, most aftermarket parts are sold by many vendors, but they are manufactured by only one company, usually in some far off Asian country. Personally, I would rather have a straightened original GM part that has been re-chromed, than a reproduction bumper. The reproduction might look great, however, how well the chrome will stand up in the future is to be determined. Many of the bumper shops that have been around for many years will give you a "lifetime" warranty against rusting and pealing, as long as you own the car. Will the reproduction sells do the same? That is a question to ask before buying, and to get in writing. To have the bumper repaired and plated, might be more than the cost of a reproduction, but in the long run, it might serve you better. If you are planning on flipping the car to a new owner, then save your $$$ and buy the least expensive bumper that you can find, including a used one.

The damaged bumper is more than likely a reproduction so no great value compared to original. Problem is, the car is my grocery getter and I don't want to drive it w/o a bumper while it's out for repair. I'll offer the damaged one for sale "cheap" and the buyer can decide what to do with it. If it's an original, he gets a great deal I suppose.

Pics of damage:

Here's another question:

I'm new to the Olds Cutlass crowd so not sure about how "purist" the group is. What thoughts do you have about replacing with a 442 bumper with exhaust cutouts and adding the exhaust "trumpet tips"?
I'm not planning to add any other 442 mods.

IMO it looks great. I'd do it.

I had Goodmark rechrome the bumpers on my 71 98. The chrome on the rear bumper is already starting to show the copper / nickel layer underneath and it's only been 2.5 years. My car is garaged and I never drive it in inclement weather. I don't know what chrome shops offer a lifetime warranty on their work but next time I'm using them.

Your car, do what you want with it. I believe that whatever makes you happy, and can be reversed with little to no trouble by the next owner, is OK. How many of these cars are all original with all original parts when you buy them? Not many, unless it is an extremely low mileage car with only one or two owners that cared to keep it all original. I am that type of person, but I believe that I am in the minority on this belief of "keeping it all original".

It's your car, do what makes you happy and enjoy it...don't worry about what any "purist" thinks, particularly with a bolt on item that can be easily reverted if the next owner wants!

I have heard decent things about the newer repo bumpers, that they hold up better now than they used to. I for one am thinking fo the same thing for the Cutlass, get a repo 442 bumper that will look awesome and if damaged no big deal. The chrome shops around Chicago are crazy expensive though they do incredible work. But for a driver i don't need show quality. And then even if you find a cheaper place you are still paying shipping. One day I'll get my W30 bumpers rechromed but for the Cutlass either a cheap used one in decent shape or a repo will go on mine.

I hope your happy with the parts you bought and I hope they're good quality. I noticed that Tarmaz is associated with Goodmark. It's listed on the bottom of their homepage. Hopefully you have a better experience than I did:

Have you installed the bumper on the car yet? How's the fit?

I'm looking to swap my standard '70 bumper for a 442 bumper. Bought a GM core BUT it needs chrome and chroming is a 6 week minimum lead time. I think I'm going to keep the core and buy a Chinesium bumper but worried about the fit. I'll save the GM bumper for if and when I do a full frame off restoration.

Thanks!

I was very impressed with the fit and finish. It was also packaged well to prevent damage in shipping.

Thanks for helping seal the deal. I was worried about the fit/finish. I called Tamraz's and they even offered a 10% discount. Got a brandy new repop 442 style bumper on its way. I guess I'll make some wall art out of my original bumper for the time being until I get myself a true 442 to restore
