Has anyone ever seen one of these?

Hello,

Has anyone ever seen this alert speedometer? I have never heard of it, and thought it was interesting. Anyone have one in their car? What years were they offered? This has the mounting face of a 68/69 style dash, did they make these in 70-72?

Thought it was interesting, kind of like the exterior mounted temp gauge!

Thats' the Safety Sentinel speedometer, They were an option at least back to ''65 that I know of. I had one in a '66 Buick, think those are called Speedminders?, the cop didn't believe me when I told him the car wouldn't go any faster than I had it set.
A buzzer goes off when you go past the set speed. The option codes show it as the U15 Safety Sentinel , in '71 and '72 it changed to the UB7 speedometer package and included a trip odometer.
There was one on evilbay a few weeks back and it went for the big bucks. I've never seen one in person either.
I wouldn't mind having one, my Vista is slowly turning into an option pig anyway.
I've been checking out how the the 1971 CD3 shift lever controlled windshield washer wiper option works and is installed lately, never seen one of those either.
I did just see a powerful bench seat for sale locally.

I have the speed-warning option in my '68 vette, I don't think they were very common in any make or model.

I've got one in a 1968 442 project car. One of the members of this board had problems with that vendor though, so you might consider watching ebay if you really want one. My 2 cents... John

My 64 Olds 98 had a Safety Sentinel. As I recall it didn't prevent you from driving faster than the setting, it just buzzed to let you know you were speeding.

My sister had one in a Buick LeSabre - I don't remember what year the car was, but it was back in the 60's. Us kids thought it was so cool when it would buzz when she was speeding!!

I had one on a 64 Rivera.
I remember my Dad and me road tested a 1970 Olds 98 2drht decades ago. My Dad punched the gas and that big Olds burned quite a strip of rubber and was charging hard down the highway...then that buzzer went off around 70 miles per hour. We didn't know what the heck was going on, we quickly found the adjuster and recalibrated it. I remember being really impressed with the power of that big Olds.

Was this a non-US (export) requirement?
I remember that many cars in Sweden were fixed with these in the late 90s. Riding in a taxi for 20 minutes with the thing beeping the whole way was not fun.

My friends dad had a 58 Olds wagon in the mid 60's. It had the sentenial and we used to adjust it low before his dad got in the car so it would go off at like 35 MPH.....kids!

Old thread, I know.

I owned a Rallye 350 back in 94/95 that was equipped with it. Thought it was pretty uncommon

I've had several cars with it. I tend to set them at 90mph.

A neighbor had a 69 455 Delta with it. His daughter drove it to school. He set it at 65mph. First thing Candace did every morning was set it about 90 and then set it back to 65 when she got home. Till the day she forgot and her parents drove it to supper... Next morning Candace was standing there waiting for the school bus. Let's just say that Candace knew full well what she had under her right foot.🚀

After a career at a big powerplant that had alarms for everything, I don't want any more alarms!

that appears to be from a 68-69 Olds with the Jetaway trans. The 70-72 cars have the mounting tabs bent 90* to bolt against the flat dash surface.

If the speedo connection is threaded it's 68, if it's a push on it's 69

Thanks, I always forget the 68 cars used the screw on speedo cable.

Isn’t there something different with the high beam indicator with certain years? I recall seeing/reading about some cars having a red square indicator, others using a blue circle?

On a related subject, isn’t there something different with turn signal indicators?
