Advance seems to sell a rebuilt unit for $130 plus core. I believe it's a Lares. I'm considering one myself. When it comes to cares, I like local so I don't have to ship. A lot of guys here on CO like the Lares 974 fast ratio boxes, also a direct bolt-in, using the stock hoses, too.

Hey Retro, I don't know if Rockauto is back ordered or what but they don't sell them anymore. They only offer a rebuild service. Cheapest 974 I can find is Speedway Motors for $300. I'm considering the upgrade. How do you like it? Any complaints?

Hmm at $300 I might investigate a cheaper rebuilt jeep box. I do like the 974. Since I made my original thread I had the car aligned w additional caster and the car drives even better!

heres my original thread https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...a-tight-52888/

i still ill have my original box if you need one to send in to be rebuilt and reduce downtime.

Well that was an interesting read. Did it loosen-up or did you just get used to it? Both?
And thanks for the offer but I'm not worried about numbers-matching. Not much original about by car anymore but the paint, lol. As far as the alignment; I need another one. My guy put everything to zero, even though I asked for as much caster as he could get me. But I met a guy at a local car show that wond his own shop (and Dodge Challenger, '70) and does a lot of the alignments for the local clubs. But I'll wait for a rebuilt box before having it redone.

Thanks for the info, Retro.
