Steering box rebuild

I'm considering having my original steering box rebuilt and modified to get rid of a minor free play in the steering and to lessen the turn to turn to 2 1/2 turns.
Has anyone here ever used Hector Carrillo in La puenta, Ca. to repair or modify your steering box? Looking for recommendations.
Thanks

I was looking more for any comments regarding Hector. His prices are considerably better than Power Steering Service. I realize that cheaper price can get a person screwed but he Hector has good reviews on another site and I trust you folks here usually with out a doubt.
Thanks

You can use bench works in Scottsdale they have done several for me. Much faster turnaround than some of the other rebuilders. In most cases less than a week.

I only have them clean the box and I detail it after I get it back

I bought a steering box from this outfit, probably the best upgrade I’ve made. I believe they still do rebuilds...

I have sold many steering box cores to Hector & he always pays quickly & is easy to deal with & talk to. I've not bought any rebuilt ones from him but I've never heard anyone say anything bad about him. I can get you his number if you want it?

I've never heard anything except good things about Hector.

I used a Jeep Grande Cherokee box. I saved a little money over Hector but you have to convert the fittings. Hector's bolts right in.

I shipped my steering gearbox to Hector Carrillo today for rebuild and modify.
I'll let everyone know how all works out after I get it back and then get an alignment.
Thanks for the responses

if you currently have a 4 turn lock to lock I don’t think he gives you a full core refund.

i looked around for the last 2 weeks to make a decision for a car i am putting together right now

i bought this...i had it in 3 days...i really thought about, and searched and researched for weeks before i decided..and the steering thread right here on this site, made my decision..

so professional..packing was incredible..not just thrown in a box..it cam in a super HD box with formed foam..really nice

its a stock style box with IROC internals..a 10 to 1 ratio..which is actually 2 1/2 lock to lock...from a really long established very reputable company.. comes with a new rag joint..and my stock original lines bolt right in its inverted flare, not o-ring.....and its a firm feel box to...more road feel..less cadillac type pinky steer...

if i want to return the core..i get $50 back..not worth my time, but maybe others..only 3 mounts instead of 4..which almost everything GM only uses 3 anyway

Hectors ebay ad states it is not 2 1/2 its more like 3..read his ad..

heres what i bought..i will buy a few more for other cars too. I like that when i paid..i was continously updated and had it in 3 days..i bought monday..got it wednesday..and..theres the whole ebay/paypal protection thing..in the end..its 30-40 bux more...if i did the math right..but its a REAL 10-1 box..

https://www.ebay.com/itm/64-76-AMC-G...53.m2749.l2649

a little research here,,and theres even less expensive option..way back when..an Iroc conversion was way over $500...and you supplied the box etc..

I just sent my power steering pump and steering box to PowerSteering.com in Nixon, MO. Marty has been very responsive. I'll post pictures when I get it back next week. I went with the upgraded fast ratio upgrade.

If this seems like a hi-jack then one of the moderators can bounce this, but how much different is the feel. I ask because I actually like the slow ratio feel. Is it like a new car, when you touch the wheel it instantly moves? I'm assuming yes. I'm not a big fan of that feel at least not on my Cutlass. I guess my question is how drastic of a change to the original feel is it?

Again, not talking about the typical loose front end, "holly cow this car sways a lot", that is caused by bas bushings, ball joints, idler, steering arm or worn rag joint. I ask because within the next week or so I'm going to install well over due bushings and such. Just trying to save on aligning the car twice. So I'll base my decision on feed back from those who have done the upgrade. Thank you.

I must of posted my results to a different post, but my experience with Hector Carillo could not of been any better. He is a great guy to deal with. He took the time to find a date correct core to rebuild for me at no extra cost and rebuilt that core for me at a very reasonable cost.
The steering box looks great and the car drives like a dream 2 1/2 turns stop to stop
I couldn't be any happier
I strongly recommend Hector and Carhex
