66 Cutlass Trunk Lock - Need Help.

Guys -
I am in the process of reassembling my 66 Cutlass, now that shes back from paint. I replaced the trunk lock, and retained it with the retainer without issue.

My question is - there is something missing on the underside of my trunk lid. The retainer sticks thru the slot, but there are 2 screw holes on either side of the slot and I assume there should be some kind of metal plate or gasket there...something. I bagged adn tagged all the stuff and I dont have whatever is supposed to be there.

HELP!

GG

Here's what it looks like. It has a little gasket under it. These are likely NOT the correct screws, I seem to remember putting new ones there. Not much on the blue car is original so new was fine.

Not sure I follow your question.
I said the SCREWS were new.
The black metal piece is the original piece that GM put on at the factory. I painted it black and I do not know if that is the correct color.
Sorry, I have no idea if it is reproduced, I didn't need one.
Good luck.

Fusick has a rubber piece that is for 68 - 77 but it looks like it'll work.
I ordered it. WTF - I'll give it a try!

Was your retainer not part of the plate that screws to the bottom of the deck lid? I am reassembling my 67 that was torn down by my dad in the mid 80's. Yes, the mid 80's. Anyway, I found the plate with 2 screws in a bag, but no retainer. To me it looks like the retainer was torn off of this plate. Since I have nothing to compare to I am hoping someone in this forum can provide me with some insight on what the heck I am supposed to be looking for.

The bracket looks like this one, except the base of it for the 66 is a bit different.

Yes, what RandyS shows IS the retainer. It slides in place over the lock cylinder, then the two screws secure it in place to the decklid, with a gasket there.

I think you may be dealing with a retainer that has the end section broken off.

Cover plate and retainer are red oxide, retained by two button head Phillips screws.

Cover plate AND retainer? Are these 2 separate parts as Guy's original post sounds? Everything I run across on the net look like one pc as the most recent replies state.

The cover plate that I have is definitely red in color. I assume e red oxide.

Well, I just went out to the white 67 and took the 2 screws out to see if this was two pieces. Best I can figure it is one piece. I pried it down a half inch and it was moving all the way up to the lock, so I think it is one piece. And it looks exactly like the picture I posted of the blue 66 car.
Now I do not remember if the 66 was one piece and I didn't try it today. But the 67 is one piece.
