Dieseling why?
Dieseling why?
This just started today, keeps running after I shut it off. It may stutter and buck for 4 or 5 seconds after shut off. Why would it start now and should I worry about it or take care of it when I get home ? About 1500-2000 miles more before home... Thanks ...Tedd
And the idle speed might be affected by your present altitude or fuel quality. Seeing as how you are on the Mother Of All Road Trips... d.

I think elevation is a good thought. Have you changed elevation much since you left? If so, then the idle may need to be adjusted, or the carburetor jets may need to be changed for optimal performance.
How hot has your engine been? Excess heat can help cause run-on.
It's unlikely you developed new carbon in your cylinders (another possible cause of run-on) after a road trip, as that's supposed to burn it off.

Till you get to the root of the problem, You can turn it off while in gear and many times this will keep it from dieseling. This is not much of a solution but at least it don't look so bad when in a parking lot.
x2 on bad gas or altitude and turning it off in gear. Throw some fuel system cleaner of your choice in tank. Make sure your idle is not too high and the carb bottom butterflies are closing properly at idle.
Thanks guys. I'm on my second tank of gas with the same results but we have been up and down in elevation like a yoyo. I will get the hi test next fillup. Getting between 12 to 15 MPG depending on whos driving.

If your running lean at altitude, the carbon on your heads may get hot enough to fire the gas left sucking even more fuel through the carb while dieseling. I agree with turning it off in gear but I would check the plugs to see if it is running too hot. Just my 2cents.
Good luck Ted.
Good luck Ted.
