4 speed pedal mounting bracket

Hey,

Hopefully one of you guys can shed some light. I am doing an automatic to 5 speed conversion on my 1968 cutlass and someone had said that the pedal mounting automatic bracket will not work with the new pedal assembly. Is there a different bracket for the 4 speed? He also said I should go with a chevelle setup but didn't have time to ask why?

Thanks in advance - you guys are great.

Anyone? Part #'s?

Rich

"Someone" would be wrong. Simply pull the pin that holds the AT brake pedal to the mounting bracket and install the new pedals and pin in the same hole.

chevelle pedals use pin type with a clip

BOP uses a nut and bolt..

Chevelle is chevelle...you must use the entire assy with pedal hanger to use a chevelle type in a BOP car

BOP cars ya do as Joe said...unbolt and bolt it in...the bolt is longer for manual pedal cars

look at Ames pontiac parts..they sell the correct pedals..a buddy just bought a set for his GTO and they are very good....they came with all the hardware...so i would think you can buy the bolt and and nut..the nut is swedged/locking

Are you going hydraulic or mechanical linkage, and what type of trans are you using.

The bolt is a standard bolt (hex head cap screw?)

7/16 - 14 : 4.5 " long IIRC

Tbere isn't one on a '68! People were expected to pay attention back then!

Seriously though ....you could use the 69 and up parts if you really want one. Just tie it into the AT neutral start safety circuit.

Good luck with that. Pedal hangers tend to be different between makes. Same firewall, but DIFFERENT DASH shape. I can say 100% a 70-72 Cutlass hanger bracket will NOT interchange w/ a 70-72 Skylark. Tried it.

Pedals work but the hanger bracket did not. I have a 72 Skylark that had a chevelle hanger bracket (poorly) jammed in it. All my other stuff is Olds. Had a 70 (and a 68) Cutlass hanger bracket that would not fit without mods. Found a 71 Skylark hanger at the junkyark. Rather not take the dash apart to take side by side pics,
