I have since looked at my '70 Oldsmobile Selling Facts booklet that shows it under option A65, so I would assume that it continued into the 1972 model year. Looking to install in my car, as I would prefer not to eat my steering wheel should I get in an accident.
Dan - General installation of shoulder belts is contained in the Fisher Body Service Manual. The 1971 Fisher Body Service Manual has them listed in Section 14 "Seats", specifically 14-76.
My '69 4-4-2 convertible has the optional front seat shoulder belts. Here's a couple of pictures of the driver side when I had things apart; (1) on how the shoulder belt is attached, and (2) the clip the shoulder belt hangs on when not in use. I find this set-up to be cumbersome at best. I've hardly ever used it.

Note this setup is similar to the hardtop shoulder belts in that they do not have ratcheting self adjusters; you manually adjust the belt length and then are effectively trapped against the seat back. This is a main reason why I rarely used the shoulder belts in my 70 Supreme hardtop - simple things such as reaching over to change the radio station were difficult due to the fixed restraint, and rolling the passenger window down or reaching the glove box was impossible without removing the belt.

Mine came w/ the optional shoulder belts. I removed them. I thought they were a true cluster &%&$.

looks like a pain to deal with. A special panel for the clip/belt holder as well?
RPO AS4 rear seat shoulder belts were offered on Cutlass Supreme and 442 convertibles through the 1971 model year. I have not been able to find any documentation that shows them as being available for the 1972 model year. Keep in mind that the 1972 cars weren't supposed to be built - that was supposed to be the introductory year for the colonnade cars that got pushed back to 1973 due to a strike. GM had to scramble at the last minute to refresh the 1971 cars and use them as 1972 models, which resulted in a number of less-popular options being dropped (like the inline six). This is also why 1972 W30 cars don't have red inner fenders.
Interesting on the shoulder belts Joe, I never gave any thought to the '72 supposed to be '73 Colonade cars. '72 used a different buckle as well, so there may not be any out there. I would guess that my only choice would be to go with the '71 and earlier style or aftermarket.
