Ignition lock cylinder

How do you remove an ignition lock cylinder on a 71 cutlass if you don't have the key ?

You have to remove the steering wheel, lock plate, and turn signal switch, which then gives you access to the spring loaded lock tab that holds the lock cylinder in place.

By the way, if you type lock cylinder removal into the search box on this site, you get all these threads with photos of how to do it...

Note: The first thread that Joe posted is a good one.

Both of the others point you to a now-dead link that redirects to GM's Buick new-car website.

FYI The new Buick address for those dead links is the Buick Performance Club. The man who started the other address sold it to GM Buick division for $. The old info is all there still, it's a really nice site loaded w/ info and good for Olds, too.

Thank you for that.

Actually, that club site has some nice write-ups.

Their simple answer to the perennial "How do I remove my back seat?" question is good.

The new steering column link is at "BuickPerfomanceClub.com."

I know...really good info on that Buick site and V8buick.com. I'm going to toss something up about date codes from the Buick site.

It's back!!!

This used to be my go-to link for explaining the tilt column wobble fix and the lock cylinder removal photos, but it went dark a couple of years ago. I'm glad it's back up. Now bookmarked again.

It never really left Joe! GM made the guy an offer, he sold and just changed the name a little.
