Idiot light for alternator output.

I have a 66 442 that was converted to an internal regulator alternator. I have s/w guages to read the real output for temp, pressure and alternator charging, but at the same time I am using the idiot lights. The problem that I am having is that with the engine running, and the voltmeter showing proper charging, the charging idiot light glows...not brightly, but some. Is this a common result when an internal regulator alternator is used in this circuit?

what alternator are you running? 10si, 12si, cs-series? i assume you came from a 10dn alternator. what is your charging voltage? where did you connect the sense line?(thinner red wire)

Need more info, but if your alt has a diode trio, 10 or 12 or 15 or17SI type, it may have a defective diode in the trio and still charge with the lite showing dim like yours does.

It's a very common problem when the conversion to internal regulator is not done properly.

The alternator that I have on the car is (I think) a 10si, 55 amp. The car is down right now for some other work, but the charging showed 12-14 volts. There is no thin red wire going to the alternator...large red, white, and blue only. The wires going to the external regulator are not used....one of those wires is small guage red...the wires that connected to the external regulator are "capped" as part of the change to the internal regulator alternator.
