Idiot light

Generator light stays on when car shut off and key pulled , any suggestions ? The car is a 69 442.

Probably a bad diode in the alternator. Unplug the alternator if the light goes out the problem is in the alternator. Suggest getting yours rebuilt locally especially if it is original to the car.

If it has a separate voltage regulator, it can be that also.

Firewall mounted regulator is sticking. Turn the headlights on when the car is off. Can you hear the regulator disengage an the light goes out?

A 1969 442 should have an open face 10SI with internal regulator.

To the OP: Is this the original alternator or a replacement?
