1960 super 88 power windows slow going down and barely come back up

Hey everyone 1st post on the forum! I just picked up a sweet 1960 Super 88 4 door Holiday Sedan has power windows! Well the rear windows from the master switch at the driver's control and even the rear 2 switches for both rear doors don't seem to get the windows down or back up very well (they'll go down rather slow and coming back up is even worse as I have to help pull them up with one hand while using the switch.. I was wondering if any of you know if the switches have bad contact or the window motors are just old and tired? And if it is the window motors, are they going to be full size motors like for a 2 door coupe or smaller motors? Thanks for any advice and help in advance.

Brett

Fusick sells power window motors for full-size Oldsmobiles, 1955 through 1977. The only difference is left/right. There is no "smaller" motor. Fusick sells them for $150 each plus shipping. If you need four of them, that's $600.

If you do need new motors, shop around. Rockauto has them for about half the price of Fusick, but there is a core charge unless you return the old motor.

Let's see a few photos of this car.

Welcome aboard! If the windows work at all the first thing to do is pull all the door panels and clean / lubricate all the linkage and sliders, they can get very slow just from dirt and friction. If that doesn't help then look at the electrics.

You're right I think I'll be doing that 1st. get all the gunk and dirt off it and grease those babies up. I'll also look into cleaning the switches. I didn't think of cleaning Thank you

Very nice. Always liked the '60 Oldsmobile with smooth lines and aerodynamic look for that time.

Thank you! I've always loved them too. Who needs mirrors with all that open glass? I traded a 71 chevelle for it.

She looks to be in remarkable shape, especially for a MN car! How about some interior shots?

+1 on that advice!

Usually, when the electrics go bad they just don't work or work intermittently. When it's slow and sluggish, most often times it's a sign of dirty and dry channels and sliders. Just dust them all off, and use good white grease abundantly at first. You'll be amazed the difference it will make. I've had cars that the window mechanisms were so full of gunk that I thought they were fixed shut and the windows started working beautifully with no effort with just a little attention and grease.

It's nice to get some more reassurance. I guess I should also think that those mechanisms are built and designed well enough to last with simple maintenance. I will be cleaning them up this weekend. Thanks for the input

I'm just as surprised i live in Oregon so getting a car out of the salty snowy northern midwest is very surprising to find that it isn't consumed in rust and the interior is in pretty great shape from what I can tell it be original with the exception of the carpet and Headliner (which have been replaced in the past 2 years I'm sure) the dash and under the dash like fuse block and wiring look almost new. I will post some interior pictures in a few hours. Surprisingly I don't have any lol
