Power Windows...
Power Windows...
Just wondering if any one out there could tell me of a source for OEM type window motors and regulators(they are different from manual regulators, right?) for a 57' 88 4d sedan? I've seen a few aftermarket universal kits but have not heard anything good about them. Sure would be nice to add power windows to this thing.
I do not know much abou the 1957 but in this thread:

I did mention some aftermarket companies (3) that make direct fit regs for various car lines. Those companies ~might~ have something for yours.
As for new replacements, I haven't a clue...

I could not find anything so I am going with a aftermarket set up for my 57. Mine is 2 door and I only plan on doing the door windows at this point. After the brakes are done of course. Got to start on the 48 soon............
Evilbay and Hemmings, parts wanted on the Olds sites, the OCA Journey with Olds magazine. If you know what they may interchange with and what years helps a lot, then you can search and post wherever. I'm on the V8Buick site because the Sportwagon has a lot in common with the Vista Cruiser, cool site too.
I put p.windows and locks in the Vista Cruiser this past winter. I should have a good chance at the powerful window races now, have five contenders.

Try these guys. They seem to be automotive pack rats. www.northwesternautosupply.com
Hey BlueVista, are you running OEM stuff or aftermarket? I'm not so concerned about it being factory as much as just working well. Front windows i dont think will be to bad(fairly small and square) those back ones however, are big and heavy, and they dont seem to roll staight up and down, rather doing a little back&forth dance as they open or close. Seems like this will take a little more umph. I do run across factory motors from time to time, but they never mention the regulator, and i didnt know if I needed more parts to make it work. In a perfect world the ol' handcrank regulator would unbolt and the motor would slide right back in there. Any takers on a perfect world? Yah Me neither.
Hey just a quick follow up; I may have found a solution to this. But i will need to know if pontiac window regulators from 53' - 54' will interchange with a 57' Olds. Seems like they ought too, but i'm not sure. they look very similar. and this would be a factory setup if i can make that work.
Well not sure if your trying to stay with the stock looking door panel but in all my cars i have used the heavy duty SPAL kits and since I always got my interiors redone I have always put a little extra foam on them in order to hide where the regulator stouck out and it has neve been a problem and plus they have built in circuit breakers as well. a breeze to install and are VERY reliable. The pric isn't bad either for front and rear it cost me about $210 with switches.

Rear door PN 4691368-9...front door PN 4234490-1...seems that the rear door regulator is different from the hardtop to the sedan, but front door is the same!

Yup the rear regulators have a different part number! The rear ones are also applicable to '58 Olds four door post, including station wagons, and '58 Buicks, Special and Century. However, I'm seeing the part number as being 4233168-9 for rear electric windows. Part number for the front electrics would be 4234490-1 which fit the same Buick and Olds applications as the rear.
