68 442,
Just finishing my header install and noticed this starter wire broken. It was connected to the R terminal on the starter and I think it broke off at the wire ganged with the purple wire in photo.
Does this sound right?
on an all stock car, it goes from the starter solenoid to the coil. It is the wire that bypasses the resister wire for the points when you are starting the car. Gives the points full voltage.
I found a post that says the yellow wire is not required to be connected to the R terminal with hei.
Should I just delete it?
You should have connected full power to the HEII, so would of bypassed the resister wire already. So yes not needed. I would just cut or wrap the lerminal end in case you ever go back to points.
The reason it was cut is because when spliced to the purple wire and still connected to the coil+ terminal, whenever the key was in the on position it would cause the starter to engage feeding voltage to the S terminal on the starter solenoid from the coil.
here is where I'm at.
Left the wire connected to S terminal and removed the wire from the R terminal.
Put the car down on the ground and started it to move out of the garage.
Let it idle to bake on the header high heat paint.
Shut it off after about 20 minutes and let cool.
Went out to run it for another 20 minutes and I have a no start problem.
Starter doesn't seem to be doing anything when I turn the key.
Battery is good.
The starter is not stuck in an engaged position.
??? I think my starter just died.
first the simple stuff, check that your purple wire is still attached to the S terminal. Also so you are saying no noise, clicking etc coming from your starter?
I will check that the wires are connected properly when I get back to this tomorrow eve.
Yes no clicking, no sound from starter when engaging the ignition.
