Washer fluid won't stop spraying

I have a 76 Cutlass Supreme Coupe. I was cleaning the engine, had all major components covered, and when I was done, I started the engine and the windshield washer fluid would not stop spraying until I turned the ignition off. There are two wire harnesses to the motor, one for the wipers and one for the fluid. When I unplug the washer fluid plug, all is good. Did I potentially short it out or is the motor bad. Thanks in advance.

It's possible.

Let it "dry out" for a day. Unplug the plug and let it sit. A day at the most. This is the cheapest thing so try it first

You might want to put some dielectric grease in the plug to help protect it for the next time you clean it. Won't hurt.
