Turn Signals Work, Rear Hazards do not
So, I just picked up a 1969 Cutlass with a straight six in decent shape. Lots of surface rust and a trashed interior but the car runs, drives, and stops all very well. Almost everything works in the car. From the washer pump to the stock radio everything seems good... Everything but the Hazards. I'm trying to get the car to pass a Massachusetts inspection, so Hazards are important.
All the turn signals and brake lights work. I replaced the flasher relay switch in the fuse box and that got the front flashers on line, but not the rear. If I activate the right turn signal and press the hazard button then the front lights flash while the rear right continues to flash, but the left remains dark (if I activate the left signal prior to pressing the Hazard button then the reverse is true).
As I understand it, the hazards are supposed to override the turn signals. My guess is that that's not happening. So my question is where in the wiring is that override supposed to occur? I'm guessing there's a short somewhere and before I pull out all the wires I thought someone with more experience might be able to weigh in.
Thanks

The hazards are on with the switch pulled out, and off with the switch pushed in.
I would agree with Copper that the most likely source of the problem you describe in in the signal light switch.
The signal light switch is in the steering column, at the end of the signal light lever.

Solved.
I took the steering wheel off, inspected/poked the turn signal switch, shrugged, put it all back together, and now everything works perfectly.
So... one problem resolved and on to the next one.
Thanks for the help.
