Starter I.D. Help
I finally had to pull the starter off my 68 Hurst - it's got that cool old Delco Remy brown bakelite with the DR logo on the solenoid. Wondering if it's the original starter - it's a 1108503 with a 2H16 after it. If not, what is the OE application for this one?

It's not the original starter. The factory number for your starter should be 1108333.
The 2H16 is a date code. H16 means August 16. The 2 indicates the last digit in a calender year, in this case most likely 1972.
I don't know what 1108503 would apply to.

I've seen that "extra" number on starters from time-to-time but I'm not sure what it means. I'm speculating that it might be a "shift" number, such that the date code would be April 4, 19X7, 1st shift. But that's just a stab in the dark.
I'm fairly familiar with starters for 68/69 but not much else. If your starter is dated April 4, 1967, for a '68 model car, I would initially question it as original to your car because the date strikes me as being too early. As well, I don't see 1108797 listed as one of the starters used on '68 model cars (Chassis Service Manual, page 12-51). But that's just a gut beginner's call.

Hmmm. Ok the shift number makes good sense, but I agree that a starter of all parts would not have set around for that long before install. So, too many years to know for sure but 1977 is out, isn't it? Weren't prod numbers closer to #1112xxxx by then? Brett
