Anyone use one of these? Pretty sure I need to get an ignition box to use it I just have an hei dis. Is it worth it to hook up to save some gas? I found it in a parts box I had laying around. Car is a 67 cutlass
It will not help you in the mileage department any more than you could by just setting the timing properly at the distributor.
You also need the corresponding MSD box to use it.
I wouldn't install it, IMO it's a waste of time and money on a strictly street car and another thing that could fail. You already have a good HEI, leave it alone and enjoy the car.
I agree with the above. It was the rage back in the 70's to have one bolted under the dash. I like the KISS method of hot rodding, keep it simple stupid.
Those parts won't add anything that a good tune up can't provide. Looking at the previous thread of your engine it seems to have a lot of go fast parts on it from the previous owner. I'd start with a good tuneup, get your timing and carb sorted out. Around town and stop ang driving your mileage will probably suck. On the highway you should at least hit 12.
Shoot I feel the highway is worse I might be geared. And I think the previous owner told me it was bored and stroked out to a 495 and has a decent size cam in it. And I think a 3000 stall. I've done a tune up besides the plugs and wires not sure what to buy on those. Everyone gets made at me for doing 50 mph on the highway but I try to just cruise it most of the time. My buddy has a 77 vette with 350 and a supercharger and I blow the doors of that car. I haven't lost a race to the new retro muscle cars either.
