erratic timing/hei

Unhappy erratic timing/hei

Hey guys ,72 cutlass/455/hei. All new internals[proform],recently installed msd-6a ,car runs great,tweaking timing and its moving 4-6 degrees.Im using standerd lite,is fire jumping inside cap ? mr. gasket advance wieghts? please help if your using msd-6a. maybe i shoud have spent that money elsewhere.thanx,BO

I would check the cap, the coil, and the spark plug wires - beyond that, it would involve bad bushings in the distributor or bad timing chain - how many mile on the motor?

You can always eleminate the MSD box by disconnecting it and running the car without it. If your problem goes away then you know that was the culprit.

no more msd!

thanx guys , everything was good before,so ill eliminate the box, maybe this lesson will save someone else some trouble and some money. by the way ,i saw no performance gain so for 250 i like to feel some diffrence.anybody want to buy a box?? thanx again.BO

Also check the distributor baseplate where the vacuum advance rod mounts into it. I have seen a few of these where the hole in the baseplate was much bigger than the rod on the advance unit. It should be a snug fit. That can cause some timing scatter as well.

im running msd's streetfire and that cost half the price and is just as good no problems yet.

THANKS,im in touch w/msd tech now,see how that goes,regardless ,ill post outcome here! oh i removed the box,put old module back in.ran fine.the spark is just so hot it trys to jump any where theres metal.ill get it,BOSMOBILE
