Instrument lights stuck on

1971 Cutlass Supreme: Anyone had a problem with the instrument lights staying on even with the headlight switch off? I looked the wiring harness over but didn't see any obvious short. I did put a tilt steering column from a 72 monte Carlo in it but the plug seemed to match up. I'm thinking maybe a headlight switch? DHoff

Pull the 4A fuse marked INST LPS.
If they go off, I would suspect light switch. If they stay on, you have a short somewhere further down the line, like in the console or around the radio (if wiring has been hacked).

When they are stuck on, do they still dim with the ****??
If so, that points to the light switch again....

Found Problem

I found a gray wire( dash lights) connected to an orange hot wire, in an area that I have never worked on, must have been when the previous owner took the radio out.

Sounds like the problem to me!
I hate "previous owner wiring hacks"...
