help ,neutral safety switch

hi, would be happy with any input with this problem.i have tried 2 new nuetral saftey switches ,but when i run the shift threw the gears , they keep blowing fuse in the fuse panel, i notice the generater dash light is always on,it goes out to when fuse blows, i have to old switches when i pit them in ,the back up lights work fine , i have adjusted the new and old switch with the little rod you put in the hole when it is in the drive position ,like the manual says. how can something so simple ,be such a pain , maybe i should just put a toggle swich , hate to, any way thanks very much , will.

Check the plug that goes into the trans for the 'switch-pitch' convertor - probably broke and shorting!

Both your neutral safety and your backup lights operate off that switch assy. The 2 purple are the neutral safety and I believe the lt grn and dk green/ wht wires are your backup lights. I would isolate the 2 circuits for now and concentrate on the purple wires to get your neutral safety system working first.

Then start working on the backup lights. do you have a wiring diagram.

click on this link:

Its the last 2 towards the bottom of the page.

still no luck!

well i got the car to start in park and nuertal, now ,but when i go to shift by reverse ,i can see and hear a spark inside the nuetral switch, i don,t understand how this can be cause when i put jumper wire in the two green wires the back up lights come on, maybe a defective switch ,but 2 new bad switches in a row, from different stores, also when i put the old switch back in,backup lights work fine, just won,t start in park, took one of the old switches apart cleaned ,and can,t see any thing wrong, any sugestions. thanks will.

Have you stuck an amp meter on the circuit. There are only 2 bulbs, so there should not be a tremendously hi load on it.

Isn't there a solenoid on the switch pitch? The solenoid or the wires going to it could be shorting to the frame/chassis.
Does the trans physically shift correctly into and out of all the gears?

The fact that the back up lights work with out blowing a fuse would seem to indicate that they aren't the problem.

hi, i don,t have an amp meter, will have one soon , so i took fuse out of the fuse panel, that says trans on it.i hooked up volt meter to the plug for back up lights, the two green wires, and there was a 8 volt reading on the gauge, reversed wires and need went below 0, put fuse back in and the gauge went up to 100 . mean while generator light is on all the time as long as a good fuse is in that trans spot, and the transmission shifts perfect in and out of the gears, also the generator loight goes brighter when starting car, then goes back to just being on after you let go of key, i thank all for the input, will.

All volt readings need to have the negative lead of your meter tied to ground. What your reading is back fed voltage thru a circuit. You are getting stray voltage through your gen light possibly do to a bad ground somewhere.
