Stopped by Professor Stellar's in Pittsburgh this morning. Mark rebuilt the alternator with new bearings and parts to convert it to an internal VR. He checked the system and AOK! The price was "right" too. Thanks Mark!
BTW, it is called an alternator in the parts book, generator in the service manual, and GM calls it a Delcotron.

I hope you brought him an apple.

And, yeah, GM was funny like that: The alternator was a Delcotron and wasn't the battery an Energizer, or some such thing?

Yeah, and the light on the dash still says GEN.
