CS144 alternator swap - brakets?
Anyone swapped on a CS144 - or other large case - alternator? Looks like I need the idle amperage as my Powermaster 12SI is maxed out at 90 amps at idle and still needs to push more.
I have a '72 small block. Certainly willing to modify brackets - done plenty already - just looking to see if anyone has found a bracket combo that accepts the large case or has pictures of modifications already performed.
Thanks!

Get a cs130. I got one from Tuff Stuff, 160 amps. with 0/2 gauge wire its enough power to run my dual electric fans, el. fuel pump and 1000W amp.
you have to upgrade the wiring too. You can't run the high power alternator with stock wiring.

It's all custom wiring already.
CS130 from Tuff is rated at 90 amps at idle. I expect it would perform the same as the 150amp 12SI I currently have, since the internals are roughly the same size.

I didn't do a full catalog, but a sample load:
35A radiator fan (it's a big one)
18A headlights+brights
15A? A/C blower
5A MSD ignition
I have an Optima red top which I think sinks 20A. I've had the worst luck with those. I'd happily switch, except I got a very fancy mounting plate custom for these batteries, and removing that plate at this point requires lifting the body - it's in the trunk over the rear suspension.
90A on the 4GA wire off the alternator verified via a clamp meter. Loaded it up and brought the idle down until voltage started sagging.

Hey odd, did you ever get this issue solved? I just installed electric fans on Wild Bill and I'm having the same issues...I would love to install a Powermaster 200A XS series CS144 but the case is about 3/4" bigger. I have custom aluminum brackets and am thinking about making a new upper bracket to fit but I thought I'd ask what you came up with (over a year later lol).

Ditto...just installed it this weekend with 2 good 6awg lead wires, one to battery, one to horn relay. Works pretty well. Was Dynoed at 110 amps at idle so that's good. Lol
