Convertible Top motor - direct battery connection

Guys,
While i have my car in pieces i have the need to lower the top (so i can weld and work on the windshield). The dash is completely off and all the switches are disconnected. Can i just attach the Red or Yellow to the + of a car battery (while grounding -) and would that work the top motor? or is there a risk that i could smoke the motor? i would think the top motor would only draw the current it needs but jsut curious if anybody else has attempted this?

Once i get the car back together i will post the work as i discovered many nuances with my redo.

Thanks,
Ed

That should work, assuming you get the correct polarity. You'll know immediately if you don't as the top will try to go the wrong way.

Or you can disconnect the lift cylinders at the upper end and manually lift the top to the down possession..Tedd
