69 442 Courtesy Light Issue
My courtesy lights aren't working does anyone know if the brown wire in the photos goes to the courtesy light terminal? When I bought the car someone had ripped the duck work out, just wondering if there is an easy fix to this issue. I assume console lights are part of the courtesy lights as well as they are not working either.
Thanks!

The wires going into the blue connector are supposed to be orange, and you'll note that the blue connector has a tab that only lets it fit into that empty BATT space on the fuse box. The courtesy lights are supposed to be powered at all times. The switches operate on the ground leg of the circuit.

You really ought to get a Chassis Service Manual, which has the wiring diagram, among other things. Scroll up and read post #2, where I already answered your question about the blue connector. The brown wire appears to be the wire that runs to the e-brake switch, since I don't see the wire in place on the e-brake assembly. The circled item is the switch and the brown wire is supposed to have a bullet connector that plugs into the bottom of that switch. Yeah, I realize you don't have a 68. It's the same on yours.

As Joe suggested, you need to purchase the 1968 CSM. You can borrow this wiring diagram until then:

I have the CSM could not read the 12-2 diagram.
I plugged in the blue connector and courtesy lights stay on all the time. The switch by the radio does not turn that light on or off. Someone had been under the dash in this car, probably trying to change the speaker. Should the blue plug have 2 orange wire or 1? I took a picture of car at Mecum and it has 1 orange wire on this connector. I am wondering if mine is incorrect?

There is no need to start a new thread, see post #2. You either have a bad door switch not opening when the door is closed or the headlight switch is turned all the way to the left. The courtesy light circuit is activated by the white wires and supply a ground to turn them on. The orange wire has power all the time.

The blue plug can have one or two wires depending on the particular car. Orange is the clock/courtesy light feed that is powered at all times. It provides power to the dome light courtesy lights, glove box light, console lights, and clock. The courtesy and dome lights are switched on the ground leg by the door jamb switches. Use a high-impedence voltmeter to check for the short or stuck switch on the return leg (white wires). Invest in an illuminated magnifier to help with reading the wiring diagrams. Hopefully you have an original CSM and not a reprint or PDF version, which lose fidelity in the scanning process.
