53 Pertronix Ignitor

I'm installing an Ignitor system in my 53, I have the flamethrower coil also, I have two questions, do I need to reinstall the old ballast resistor with my new coil? and what do I do with the small earth lead inside the distributor?

Which one are you using? Pertronix I, II, or III?

I believe that you can bypass the ballast resistor on any of them and run a full 12 volts.... Tedd

Pertronix 1, I have fitted it with the resistor in the meantime and even managed to get her running again after a massive backfire...unfortunately it's still running rough. Ive just bought another set of new leads, just about to fit them.

The red wire from the module needs to be connected to full switched battery voltage, the coil can be wired either way, with or without resistance wire. The small ground wire in the dist. needs to be reconnected to where it was originally.

There is no resistor wire on a 53. It has a ballast resistor. You can leave it in place and just move the wire to the input side of the resistor which has a full 12 volts. Pretty simple.
