1983 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme no crank no start

Ok so I have a 1983 olds cutlass supreme with a Chevy 350 and my problem is with the starter or the wires. I just replaced the positive battery cable because the cable was full of corrosion and when I turned the key it would make a loud clunking noise. After I did that I bolted the starter back up and turned the key, all I got when I turned the key was a clicking noise coming from under the hood at a connector that’s around the a/c unit. Now I’m just lost on what the problem is now so I’m asking for some advice on what tests I can do to figure this problem out.

Did you replace the negative battery cable as well?

Assuming battery is good and charged.

That relay you unplugged is the hi setting blower relay. That's not a problem area for your issue.

In addition to the question prior about a checking/replacing the negative cable, or checking for tightness if cleaned, did you test the starter off the car to see if it would engage and turn when the solenoid was jumpered out? The inboard terminal (s-terminal) on your solenoid can be jumped on the bench to engage the starter off the car (Cars with starters on driver side it becomes the OUTBOARD terminal). You can use jumper cables and a 12V car battery and a jumper wire. Ground the case and apply 12V battery power to the solenoid battery post.

If it's a Delco solenoid, it will have an "S" molded in the plastic insulator next to the post.

This is one way to do it in the video link below. I've done it this way before but I used a vise to hold the starter.

yes I replaced the ground wire before, it didn’t appear to have any corrosion in it and the battery has plenty of juice

yes I removed the starter and jumped it using my truck so it works and the gear moves into place and engages. I think it might be something after the battery and before the starter so imma try to bypass the ignition by connecting a remote switch

Did you put all the wires back on the big solenoid post?
