1970 Cutlass center console wiring

A few years ago, I purchased a replacement dash wiring harness from M&H for my ‘70 Cutlass wagon. Recently I’ve been installing the harness in anticipation for installing the dash board and discovered that the lighting harness on my center console was a three pin as opposed to the four pin connection provided by M&H. After some research, I realized that the ‘71-2 console lighting harness differs from the ‘70. I ordered a ‘70 harness to correct the situation and it arrived yesterday. However, when connecting the new harness I noticed that the grey and white with black stripe wires are swapped in the connector. Am I out of my mind or were these wires incorrectly indexed from one of these wire vendors. Surely one side should match the other. Could anyone verify the correct configuration?

I would wire it so it worked.

Naturally, this is the instinctive approach.. I’d like to wire it per the standard. If I’d “wired it to work”, then I’d revamped my three wire harness in the first place. Thanks Eric😁

I agree with Eric. Change it if you need to and make it work. But just for grins I went out to the garage to see if I could find a 1970 console with the wiring intact. I didn't, but I did find two that must be 1971's because the color is Sienna. They both have three pin plugs. Here's some pictures of what they look like. If it would help, I can pull one down from the rafters for better pictures. Just let me know. Ah, now that I downloaded them I see the autofocus on the camera was focused on something else for most of them. Well, just let me know if there's a different angle you would like to see. I remembered one more place to look and came up with this harness in a black console. It's from a 1970-72 but I don't know for sure what year. It has the same three pin plug, orange on a horizontal fork and the grey and white/black stripe vertical forks. The Sienna consoles had a black with white stripe, this one has white with black stripe. But they both have three pin connectors that are a different shape from the one you have. John
