I don't think it's all that bad, Bob.

Sure, it'll flex, and it'll twist, but, like a normal frame (which is hopelessly flexible by modern auto design standards), it will spring back.

The main problem is that over time, it can sag in the middle, especially if it is overloaded, and especially if it is overloaded with a door open.

If he keeps the doors closed when doing things like jacking it or going over rough roads, and if he avoids overloading it, I suspect it will last for years.

Actually, the crumple zone is now the passenger compartment.
