It's your car build it as you like. Don't worry about what others think.

Oldsmobile offered "options" so the buyer could build his car the way he wanted.

A #s matching car is great but if the 455 is what you want then go for it.

I put one in my '69 442 and love it!

DON'T DO IT, just kidding, like others have said its your car - you are already changing the motor, the hood and paint can be put back too - but when its done the way you like it you enjoy it more.

Unless you are tired of working the clutch, may I suggest that you stay with the manual, the fun factor is amplified with a stick. A lot of folks work very hard to configure their auto cars this way, and a whole lot more just wish that their cars were equipped as a manual. Of course if you are tired of working it, or have medical/physical reasons for making the auto switch, then I totally understand. As for the big cube engine.....it is your car, bought and paid for. Enjoy it the way you want to and let the next custodian return it to original if they choose to. That said, if possible it's always wise to keep the original engine provided that you have the space. Have fun!!
