^^In very of a rear axle!!^^

Dear forum friends,

Im searching for a complete rear axle for my 1968 oldsmobile Vista cruiser.
Its a hard Search but otherwise my special car is "dead".

Maybe an adres to build one.

Just an axle woud be better.

With kind Regards Jesse.

Welcome aboard!
Around what area do you live? There are Vista parts out there!
What happened to your axle? Maybe you just need parts which may interchange with other years or models...
The more info you can give, the more we can help!

You should be able to find an axle in your local area, Olds are not THAT rare.

If all else fails, I have a '72 rear end with a ratio of 2.73, non-positraction, that you can pick up for little money. But it's a long ride, especially with a trailer. But I'm not sure that rear end is correct for your '68 - I'm not even sure it fits, if your '68 has leaf springs.

If I remember correctly, the 68 Vista rears had a different axle bearing, and that bearing is not available, unless you can find an NOS one somewhere. If the bearing failed,it probably chewed up the shaft, thus not being able to reuse the shaft.
Let us know exactly what is wrong with it.

Also the shock attachment bracket is different than a Cutlass or 442...

Yes,the Vista rears have slightly different shock mount, but the rears can still be swapped. Been there done that.

rear

Wow talk about 1/2 way around the world from Holland...lol.

Really would like to know what is so bad that they say you need a COMPLETELY different rear... Why was the car taken to the shop in the first place? restoration accident ?? etc.?

Here is a list of rears you can make work under the vista cruiser. Most will require a drive shaft being longer by 1" ish. BUT this may be a easier way out then to try and find the EXZACT vista cruiser rear -
1968-1972 Chevelle El camino Skylark Cutlass, GtO tempest 1969-1972 Grand Prix, 1970-1972 Monte Carlo all 10 and 12 bolt versions will fit.

JUST remember some will have different u-joints (easy swap with a precision 372 or Neapco 3-3130 joint also called the BOP to chevy u-joint)

So hope this helps. Jim
