steering box

When you say everything is new do you mean just the steering box? What about the steering and suspension components (tie rods, idler arm, ball joints, bushings)? Did you replace the rag joint in the steering column?

Hey Olds64, there is no rag joint in a 55. The shaft comes out of the steering bax and goes all the way to the steering wheel where it is threaded for the nut holds the steering wheel on. You do not want to be in a crash in one of these old cars.
d-666 you might call Chip at Power Steering Services in Springfield, MO. He rebuilt the power steerng sector for me for my friends 54. He is a really nice guy and is an Olds guy. I don't have his number but I think he still has an ad at 442.com.

I sense a communication failure.
Not possible for you to replace your "ball joints" and/or "rag joint" Because your '55 does not have them.
No. They were adjusted at the time they were assembled. As long as the fluid level is properly maintained, those adjustments would normally last the life of the car. They cannot compensate for gear wear, resulting from improper maintenance.
With the car at rest, and the front wheels pointed straight ahead, gently move the steering wheel, about ¼", from left to right. If there is any wear, you should be able to feel it.
Have the front end aligned, as shown in the Factory Service Manual, except, have them set the caster at +1°.
If that doesn't do it, we will need a better description of your problem.
