I'm rebuilding the reared of a 1970 cutlass and am looking for new gears. The #673 housing is in great shape and I'd like to reuse it or find a new used #671 28 spline. I'm changing all the bearings seals and gears because the reared appears to have been run with very low oil level. The pinion backlash was .020.

Ya'll are gonna love this one. The oil fill plug was cracked and seized in the hole when I bought it, someone had drilled a hole in the cover to fill it and used a plastic plug to close the hole. Plastic not rubber and it didn't seal well! You could see the leakage on the cover. When I opened it up there was less than a quart of oil in it and a lot of very fine metal in the bottom. The posi plates are actually in good shape with lots of scalloping showing.

Any sources for gears or if some one has an old housing #671 they didn't use please let me know.

I think I have a set 2.56 or 2.78 gears. If you’re ok with used gears you can have a set cheap. If interested, I just have to confirm I have them still stored in the attic.
