69 type O bearing

If I pull the axle, should the bearing come out with the axle? Or is it pressed in to the housing?

On all O type you should have bearings pressed on to the axle shaft and the bearing comes out with the axle. THEY are not pressed into the housing - Bearings pressed into the housing end would be c-clip set up axle system.

Are you sure you have a Type-O? Not only is the axle bearing pressed onto the axle, there is a retainer pressed on after it. I have a hard time believing that both the bearing and retainer didn't come out with the axle unless there is something seriously bad about that axle.

Yeah lol, the bearing went out in my 3.08 so I went over to my small pile of 2.78s and found the worst one to pull an axle. I guess I’ll try another one.

WOW....!!!! That is a sealed Bolt IN AXLE bearing and the axle did slip out of the bearing....LOL. WOW!!!!!!

NOT GOOD>
So you need to measure the axle and see if the surface lost diameter or the bearing did.... Usuually we see the axle shaft being the issue here ..... The surface is not all scared on the axle?
Check it out. Measure and see. 1.382 on the shaft I believe...Someone with book specs chime in here.

Once you get the rear apart you can send a long steel or wood broom handle through the tube and hopefully knock out that bearing

If you have the proper puller obviously you can use that too. BUT I just try to give the back yard guy ways to do the job with out special tools for a one time deal.

Ok so on the diff that the bearing went out of, the bearing came apart and I can’t find all of the ball bearings. Didn’t see them in the tube, pulled the cover not in there. Where’d they go? Can they even get into the gears?
